Members of Parliament should be part of the government. That is no MP should have a cabinet position. It is one of the reason why the parliament is lame-duck. When debating an issue, their hands are tied because they cannot turn their backs on the government.

These things can only happen in a nation where commonsense is missing from the educated elite.

Also, I remember very well that when NDC was forcing the creation of additional 45 new constituencies, some same minds opposed it but they went ahead and now what? We cry of being poor yet, we act more silly than ever.

If I have the power to change anything in Ghana, I will tell all and sundry to go the "Federal way" where each region will use its resources for development. That will end that useless "centralized shit" we are inhaling.

Ghana will continue to fail because of the very system that we have; very weak institutions, useless paliament, corrupt judiciary, and lets chop executive branch, this is clear extension of colonialism where the colonials create a system to advance their course except we now have black colonialists. Go back and read Dr. Bokor's piece again and understand what is at stake here. we need good journalists in this country who actually follow our so called leaders and report about their performance, you will be amazed at your findings as too many of these so-called leader just fleece the nation and don't even know thier job description..

Indeed, Parliament is among the numerous state institutions which has become so dysfunctional culminating the state of hopelessness that the country finds itself today. Parliament has become an avenue for people to amass wealth. It is the only organization where members go on retirement every four years with huge sums of money only to find themselves there again. Is there any wonder, the mad rush of people to become members of Parliament and the desperation of the existing members to be retained?

Parliament is disappointing and failing the masses. The people expect them to be up and doing. The partisan nature of parliament must give way to a Parliament where issues are debated dispassionately all in the interest of the nation.

Like Mr Darpah has said, more than half of that huge numbers,since entering that House, have not open their mouth to speak on a single issue.So what is their use there? I don't want nobody to tell me that,the ruling government has a majority and therefore,it would be business as usual.How often haven't the npp boycotted serious proceedings in that house, thereby, giving the ruling government a field day to do their own things, and what was the outcome of those boycotts? In as much as I agreed with Mr Kan Daapah that a few number of them could do the job that the lots are not able to do, we should also look at factors that have got to do with creations of districts, and do something about it. There are some of these districts that can not even generate revenue to pay their employees, and have to rely on the central government for that.What a waste.

What is their use there. My MP for Tema, is one of the useless ones who is always alert to speak into any passing microphone, or taking delight to talk nonsense on TV about things he has no idea, because he is a member of parliament. I think when we talk of corruptions, majority of those things there in parliament are worse because they are taking illigal salaries. Useless people with useless parliament. Tweeeah.

You forget that the executive also holds the majority in parliament. It is in their interest that the flawed constitution remains as it is. Rawlings, as he converted from a military leader to a civilian one, ensured that the constitution centers all powers in the presidency. Kuffour had the opportunity to revert some of his powers to parliament, but he too was too happy to exercise a near absolute power. I don't see how the constitution will amended. The concentration of power in the executive gives them sweeping influence over patronage politics in the country, and all the corruption that it engender, and so I do not think, as selfish these politicians are any president would want to see that change. Unfortunately our parliament will continue to waste of everybody's time and money.
