You may look back at what President Obama did with Hillary Clinton after the Democratic Party Primaries in 2008. This is exactly what Akuffo-Addo has not done with the NPP.
It appears to me he has too big an ego for himself or perhaps too arrogant to talk to his perceived enemies in order to make the party better. Your primary opponents are not your enemies; they tend to be members of your party who have another way of running the country.
In this sense, Akuffo-Addo has been a complete failure. With his inaction and his refusal to step aside, the NPP is bound to fall apart and it's all going to happen because Akuffo-Addo feels too big to perform the tasks of a true party leader.

The same year I was Dr. Safo Adu and Charles Amankwa's Manhyia Constituency Assistant. In 1979, I witnessed live, UNC's mammoth rally at ABBEY'S PARK, Kumasi. Two weeks later, Mr. Victor Owusu riding on horse arrived at PFP's equally mommoth rally at the same park. I was full of tears when the Danquah/Dombo/Busia fraternity became divided. Thanks largely to Akufo Addo who counselled his uncle PAA Willie to break away from the fraternity with with about 40% of its followers. Victor Owusu, then stupidly rich, took away 60% of the fraternity. The second run off of 1979 Presidential Election pitted Victor Owusu against Nkrumahist Dr. Hilla Limann. Folks, I was in both Accra and Kumasi when UNC followers openly campaigned and voted for Limann. Then Bantama Constituency UNC leader Afua Colemann urged UNC supporters and sympathizers to vote for Limann, and they did.
Folks, it WAS NANA AKUFO ADDO WHO IN 1979, COUNSELLED FOR THE SCHISM OF DDB fraternity. It is no wonder that he just cannot urge NPP to stop the intra NPP wranglings and divisions.
Not until Akufo relinquished his leadership of the party, NPP will NEVER experience atmosphere of peace and concord within it.
There are two remote reasons for the current ugly state of NPP. The first reason is what I have briefly adduced. The second remote reason was the severe beaten of Paul Afoko in 2007 by Nana Akufo Addo's bodyguards at Legon. The immeditae reason was the calling of "EMERGENCY MEETING" by CPP sympathizer Freddy Blay in the absence of Chairman Paul Afoko and Secretary General Kwabena Agyepong.

We as a party should forget the episode of 1979 because prominent Asantes broke rank with Victor Owusu who could have been a great President and joined the UNC, including Okatakyie Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa, R.R Amponsah etc.
If we keep up with this trying to settle political scores, then we might as well pack it in and cease to exist as a Party.
