Despite all the hype, Gaddafi never stood for his professed faith in:
--Freedom
--Socialism
--Libyan unity

More important for the subject, whatever Gaddafi did for Pan-Africanism was done to massage his own ego, or profit from.

But, of course, that is just our opinion, of course, for the record!

It is not to glorify dictatorship but so long as it brings peace and development to the People, it is in the right direction until the terrain becomes conducive for power change over.

Libya cannot have such a great leader or peace any more or any time soon. The killing of children and Mothers is too much they regret losing Gadafi.

Kwame Nkrumah knew Development takes time so he had wanted same for Ghana which was under-developed. You cannot practice same democracy as the developed world changing governments every now and then with each Government coming to power with different ideology.

I think on this I do agree with Kola, this being my first as most of the comments I’ve read from him are filled with insinuations, insults and antagonisms. This idea of African unity is quite a serious matter and I believe that although the powers that be in the West and elsewhere and their local stooges in Africa would do all in their power to kick against it, the sons and daughters should nevertheless continue to seek enlightenment and engage in serious discussions on this issue.

I have said this several times and will say it here again: The powers that Africa struggles with be they, financial institutions, multilateral global institutions, multinational organizations and conglomerates, powerful religious bodies whose main leaders, directors and policy makers belong to secret societies whose main aim is to perpetuate the status quo to keep Africa forever chained and underdeveloped have continually over the decades bribed, intimidated, manipulated and cajoled almost all African leaders to join their ranks and file and recruited them into their fold (their secret societies-Lodges, freemasonry etc)in exchange for material wealth. In fact they have effectively sold out their own countries and people.

The only solution to the African Unity question in my view is for the enlightened ones amongst us to persevere to continue preaching the message with the view to educating our peoples so they would identify potential leaders with Pan Africanism credentials and vote for them during national elections. It would be difficult for our enemies to kick against our unity if we have leaders who live and breathe Pan Africanism and thus we have a considerable numbers of such leaders at the helm of our affairs. However if such leaders turn out to be few in their numbers, we stand no chance and therefore the cherished unity of all |Africa will be a mirage and just a dream never to be realised.

For us, the greatest exemplar is Kwame Nkrumah - for all his achievements, and the records he left for us, and the records others left/have on him.

Whether he supports Pan-Africanism for his own ego or whatever, he was right because that is what most leaders do. The send their message through aid or other means just to woo others to his side.

Look at the US and most of the western world. They give aid and then what comes with it? If most of African leaders were like Gaddafi, they west cannot use us like a doormat. He use the oil money to develop his nation. The west demonize him just because he cannot be cowed or force into submission and that led to his untimely demise.

Look, our first president did pretty good but down the road, he veered. Why? My question to you is, do you think he could have unite the entire continent at that time? Even as, we speak, how united are we in Ghana?

The resources he put into that venture was fruitless. It was no brainer and a total waste to the detriment of our dear nation. Nkrumah should have developed Ghana to the envy of those leaders he was trying to cow into submission. When he was overthrown, our gutters were yawing or gasping for something to cover them. Also, he should have laid a solid foundation of Ghana and some strict laws to withstand the test of time for future posterity to build upon.

His quest to unite Africa led to his downfall. Look at Europe. We are copying everything they are doing and with that, cast your mind back to those days and ask yourself if that "United Africa" was achievable while the Europeans power were all over the continent.
(KOLA, INSIDE LONDON even had something to say about that).

And is it you yourself who is making a point or are you standing on behalf of others? Who are those who form 'our opinion'? Are they faceless or nameless? Do they not have the ability to freely make their own comments?

I do not think that you quite understand what socialism means. If you did, you would not have made such a ludicrous statement about Gaddafi not being a socialist and not standing in his professed faith in freedom and Libyan unity.

You kind of sound like a Christian fundamentalist who accuses other Christians of not being Christian enough because they dont go to church eight times a week.

I do not think we should begin to go into who is more qualified than others in the knowledge of Nkrumah. I also think that it is the height of inanity to go into how some people love Ghaddafi more than Nkrumah. Much as I also consider myself as an ardent Nkrumaist, I do not consider or look down upon others who are not Nkrumaist in their outlook on politics. Circumstances may not have helped them to attain that privileged stature - at least not yet.

Nkrumah stood for principles which in my personal estimation, were good - or the best for the long-outstanding development of Ghana and Africa. It is those same principles that make all of admire him. I am sure that if we searched around hard enough we will find people - educated and uneducated who also stand for those same principles but who dont consider themselves as Nkrumaists because they may not know that it was the same trajectory that Nkrumah took albeit on the much grander platform of politics.

You ask, "How much unity did Gaddafi cause to occur in his own Libya in 41 years?" Are you really serious? Or are you pulling our legs? Perhaps if you opened your eyes wide enough and judge the difference between the Ghaddafi era and the post-Ghaddafi era, you may just about be able to answer your own question. I would also advise you to do a thorough research into the socio-economic conditions of Libya during the period that Ghaddafi was the President of Libya. What you will discover may help you cure your myopia.

If so, I regret to say that I am sorely disappointed because I have a very low opinion of African academics and pseudo-intellectuals and this is not because I am arrogant. For clarification, we are sad our concept of "socialism" does not allow us to see Gaddafi's 41-plus year rule of Libya as a ranking "socialist" regime in Africa. So, we will grant you a point on this one!

Then there is the question of justice, freedom and unitary results all those 4 decades.

Our record is mighty clear! That we "berate" Nkrumah is a rather outstanding statement. It is, simply, conjecture on your part.

But, we are sorry we cannot provide a "ready-made list of African-centered leaders" at this time, not to any one. (But, within our own life time, Nkrumah is at the top, and Nyerere is on our list).

As well, we are deeply sorry to "sound just like those imperialist hounds who berate Nkrumah for all the good things that he did for Ghana and Africa..". in this case of Gaddafi. We do not look down on anyone simply because they do not believe in the importance and legacy of Nkrumah. For them, we will always make an effort to inform and understand. However, when those we know in the past who have not cared a bit about that legacy, or told us Nkrumah's achievements are inconsequestial for whatever reason(s), and the same people tell us Gaddafi is a great Pan-Africanist, we must disagree.

In all these matter, we surely must agree to disagree, if you will!

Just look at how we are united in Ghana and use that as a yard stick to that of African unity.

That said, never use the US as an example. Why I said that? Think about the history of that nation and how the natives were annihilated. Now, if we the natives on the continent of Africa were annihilated, I think the "occupiers" could have unite under any name or whatever. Just think about that. The natives in the US are rarely seen and their demised caused the occupiers to unite because they have one voice, under one banner and one language.

In Europe, the EU was formed not too long ago because they developed their various nations before embarking on that EU. Even nations that want to be part are given some rules and regulations to follow else, they are sidelined.

Now, if we African can unite, we have to start developing our various nation to some level and even with that I doubt.

We African must look at ourselves and our leader through our own eyes and not through the eyes of those who sat on the hydro resources of the Congo for many years without giving us a kilo volt out of it, and those who steal our nuclear reactor and refuse even to give us thermal energy unless we go to them in chains of poverty. Let us take note that democracy and freedom means giving people knowledge and skills to provide for themselves with other alternatives. Under Gaddafi Libyan women in the villages are thought self reliance to produce gas from the dropping of their animals. Today they are forced to buy gas from gas marketing companies. Freedom does not imply that a Ghanaian farmer should always plough with an American tractor, he should most of the time do so with his own.

The western governments spend a lot of money, time and energy in the development and stability of Africa. The western people complain because its like carrying water to the sea, and their own problems are increasing. But their governments keep trying to help, because if everyone does well, everyone profits.

This has had the unpleasant effect of making some of our brothers and sisters extremely stupid. A typical example is yourself, who as an adult, is still sitting around waiting upon and praising the hands that feed you. What a fool!

Now because you dont read and as a result you continue to get more and more dumb as the months and years go by, you are not even aware that for every $1 million that those evil people give us on the basis of false charity, they in turn take away at least $5 billion through all sorts of dubious means such as tele-guiding clowns like Kufuor and your likes with generous financial largesse to more easily assume power.

After succeeding to win power, they then sign criminally fictitious agreements with them - like Kufuor did with the our oil, that leaves us with just 12.5% of the revenue gained from our resource.

These funny, sinful and unforgivable agreements are replicated throughout our economy in the gold, diamond, bauxite, cocoa, rubber, timber and other sectors.
