  Thank you for writing this and starting this conversation. Where do we begin? First of all, I stand with Chimamanda Adichie, that we should all be feminists, especially you my dear African men. Feminism means you want the same opportunities for your son, as your daughter. It means your sister, who is just as qualified should get the same opportunity to become MD of the company she works for one day, as her male college. Her gender should not preclude her from doing so. You see, feminism is very simple, is it wrong for women to demand equal pay for the same job performed as men? Is it wrong to want the same thing for your son as your daughter?
  
  Now on to the "masculinization" of men. I do agree with you, and think we should begin to raise our boys (and girls) differently. Why shouldn't men cry? Why should men have to pay for dinner on a date? Why do they have to take on more (financial) responsibility than women, by virtue of being men? Similarly, why should women have to bear the responsibility of raising children? Many men I know can cook, and clean. Once they get married, this becomes the responsibility of women. Why is that?
  
  Research has shown that women who succeed in their jobs/careers have men who are partners-- who are willing to take shared responsibility in raising children and household chores. Our society has to evolve in order for these things to happen.

  I do not advocate any of the questions you ask in my previous statement. The women I know do not proclaim they have no money and require men to take of them. In many cases it is the men who are uncomfortable with women who can take care of the household financially-- and will not allow women to take financial responsibility of the household, even when they are not able to.
  
  But don't forget that many women in addition to bringing in an income are responsible for most of the household chores and take care of the kids. That alone is a full time job.
  
  As for your question of men/women marrying the househelp, I do not see the logic or its relevance to what is being discussed. Househelp are human beings too, so people should be comfortable marrying whoever they want.
