As a Christian it's very heartwarming not only to learn but observe that nearly 70% of Ghanaians identify with the Christian religion. My worry however is about the misconceptions many Ghanaian converts have about their religion and faith. The Bible is the handbook for a successful Christian life but most of the Ghanaians who profess Christianity are not Bible reading Christians. How does one become a successful engineer, doctor, etc, when he has never read an approved handbook on the subject? Many of such Christians expect miracles in their lives not knowing that faith precedes the miracle.
Faith involves hearing the word of God and living according to its standards and precepts. This means living by every word of God. How does one serve a master he has never known? To know God is to do his will and how do you know his will when you have never invested time in not just reading but "searching" or studying the scriptures? The Bible enjoins Christians to SEARCH the scriptures.
There's too much time spent in all night prayer sessions and too little time spent in productive work and quality family life at home. Remember that the nucleus family is the basic unit of society and the stronger or weaker they are determines the state of the entire nation. The eroding of Christian values and the weakening and disintegration of the family units are happening in an environment where fornication, adultery, bribery, corruption, worldliness, covetuosness, envy ,laziness, lying , slander, bigotry, cheating, juju,419, Sika aduro, etc, etc.abound and repentance is never preached. The list is endless. If there's a surge in violence and immorality then isn't it also true that Christian virtues are on a rapid decline in the nation that boasts of a comfortable 70% Christian majority?
The proliferation of churches and the sharp increase in the number of mercenary lay preachers and 419 prophets and apostles may account for the deterioration in the quality of Christian life. Where are the true Christians in Ghana? There's too much noise making but no positive results in Christian Ghana. Cease talking and live by faith and by example. The fruits of your labors is not only in the numbers but in the quality of the lives of those you lead.
