Professor K.A. Busia did not say that he was going to stay in power forever, and he did not declare Ghana as a one-party state either. He was given a 5 year mandate to deliver on his promise for Ghanaians to judge whether to extend his mandate or elect a different leader freely and democratically. But the communist relics who were still hiding in our midst got panicked and overthrew him prematurely for fear of his progressive achievements. Truly, the man knew exactly what he was coming to do to alleviate the suffering of his people, through an alternative mode of development different from that of his predecessor, and hit the ground running from the first day in office.
On the other hand, Nkrumah was in power for sixteen years and turned himself into a president for life when he realized that his popularity had waned. In the sixties and after he had squandered the huge reserve bequeathed to him by the Whiteman, the country started to sink and Ghanaians visibly yearned for a change. But since Nkrumah closed all the doors and channels that could have been used by Ghanaians to exercise their political will of changing him democratically through the ballot box, they had no choice other than to force him out of office through a military coup. Therefore, the coup that removed Kwame Nkrumah from office was the only legitimate coup in the history of Ghana.

It is often said some misfortunes could be a blessing. This is often hard for me to swallow. Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's misfortune is not a blessing for Ghana but rather a blessing for Osagyefo himself, because his misfortune is the only thing that would be analyzed by future understanding generations of Africans to make them do Nkrumah's wishes: African Unity and prosperity.
Nkrumah said after the completion of the Akosombo dam that, he has realized one of his numerous dreams for Ghana and Africa. Amongst other things, Nkrumah's aim for building the Akosombo dam was to let Ghana have an integrated Aluminium industry and any discerning person must know how prosperous Ghana would have been by now. That was the main reason why those who wanted him not to accomplish what he was about to accomplish did anything by hook or crook to usurp his power.
Ghana(Nkrumah) in conjunction with Guuinea(Sekou Toure) with their Bauxite would have made at least West Africa a place to consult when it comes to the availability of the wonder metal(aluminium) and its diverse products.
Nkrumah, had the misfortune of even having had to use lantern light to read and write at certain times during his exile in Conakry! Electricity for our homes would only have been a by product of the Akosombo dam and now Ghana is crying for that.
Even though Nkrumah was bullied by Kaiser in signing an unfavourable agreement, he did so just to bid for time when he would have had his say.
Rawlings and co. and other governments that followed were the ones that reaped what they had not sown. In their time the original agreement Nkrumah signed was revised for them to obtain what they could have done all that Nkrumah wanted to do with the Volta River Project. Yet, without any vision of their own, and refusing to study what Nkrumah had planned for Ghana, they used the newly found opportunity to send Ghana and Africa backwards and backwards until we are where we are now. No industries, no railways, no airlines, no jobs etc. etc.
Neo-colonialists know what they use their puppets and quislings for-mere tools to be discarded at their whims. They will stupidly be imaginining that their colonial and slave masters left Nkrumah with all the Fort Knox gold. Oh! how fools die for want of wisdom and reasoning.

Do you know why there is strong partisanship in Ghana? It started long ago when Kwame Nkrumah divided the nation into patriots and traitors. Patriots were those who accepted that he should be president for life, practice one party state (Polity Bureau) system and indulge in leftist anti-West propaganda, using the country's meager resources to challenge centuries' old, well-established Western countries. The patriots even accepted that he should act as the savior of Black men around the world, while tyrannizing his own Black people at home simply because they had alternative views on how to develop their country.
Those who wanted him to concentrate more on our basic needs and tone down his rhetoric against the powerful were called traitors, reactionaries, and agents of imperialism that should be liquidated or imprisoned dead or alive. Could you believe that the opposition members he was tyrannizing were the very people who started the struggle for our independence? They employed Nkrumah and paid for his ticket from the UK to come and work as a general secretary of the group, saving him from the humiliation and tyranny of being unemployed in London. The Independence Struggle Vanguards were senior civil servants in the Gold Coast, and as the struggle was gaining momentum and scope of the activities widening, they needed someone to work full-time for the group free from official work constrains to further spread message of the struggle.
Under their sponsorship and protection, Nkrumah used the platform to become a public face of the group and his popularity soared. Being the secretary general and voice of the group, he was considered by many as the leader because; a lot of our people in those days could not differentiate between the spokesperson and the leaders. So, Nkrumah used the platform to drum up support for himself underground scheming to undermine the group because, he was a communist and they were democratic liberal conservatives. Subsequently, when he heard from the Governor General's female secretary, who was later sacked, that the British were getting ready to grant us independence as they had promised, he increasingly used needless militant tactics to provoke the Whiteman in order to gain prominence when the 'wind of change' was already blowing, and to embarrass his employers in order to outfox them. He then used the opportunity to break away from the group, forming his own party and slapping them from the back to take power.
This explains the strong partisanship in Ghana and why Nkrumah didn't want the Liberation Vanguards to ever come to power in his life time. Maybe he was afraid of his own ghost, or because he was a communist and communist don't share power. Despite all these facts, his supporters still want us to believe that he initiated, spearheaded and single handedly fought for our independence, and had the right to treat the country as if it were a kingdom or his private property.

Only people who can't read to understand things as they were themselves will even try to contemplate to think if it is possible that what you are saying have even a grain of truth in it.
Nkrumah separated himself from the weeping cowards who thought the slave and colonial masters gave independence on a silver platter. Nkrumah was known for what he was and is, by Ghanaians. They knew that he had ideas, he was a fighter for the suffering Africans and fearless for that matter. That was the reason why he was elected overwhelmingly in the elections even though he was in prison.
It was the people of Ghana who wanted Nkrumah to be their leader for life even though the people knew his life could be short with all those assassins lurking around at every corner. Could you quote a statement where Nkrumah ever said he was the President for life in Ghana? Liar!
Our proof as Nkrumaists that Osagyefo deserved all accolades bestowed on him is that, more are being added even after his "assassination" by your types. Nkrumah stands tall in Addis Ababa so all African leaders could remember him and emulate his works. Those who know how Ghana has been going backwards after Nkrumah will understand that Ghana is in the present condition because of liars like you.

WE SAY: They prefer our eyes closed while they bask in the glory about the greatness of Danquah-Busia-Kotoka-Ankrah-Afrifa, and how "100% capitalism" will uplift everyone.
But, that is a farce!
Thomans Piketty, in "Capital in the Twenty-First Century", shows us it is all a farce as far as the history of capitalism goes. And Piketty used historical records (hard data) to argue his case. He shows that Reagan's "trickle-down prosperity" is a political lie. Yes, that is the value of data.
Only an idiot will operate as if capitalism reared its head in the 1800s, with the Industrial Revolution. Even the mercantilist and feudal lords were capitalist.
Attorney SAS and Baidoo - they never have data. It is always talk. But why won't they: they destroyed all the data and gave away some, when NLM-NLC took over with assistance from the Western powers.
Thanks.

Title: Should Western Leaders Have Boycotted Mandela's Funeral?
READ:
"...If Nkrumah had the skills and wisdom to incorporate his foes when he initially won power in 1951 we wouldn’t be in this mess..."
WE SAY: We address that question in this, our 2-part essay. (As has Francis Kwarteng in several of his essays)!
To the point, Nkrumah did try!
Further, the absurdity of the question is exposed if we know the history at bottom.
It is like saying Nkrumah should never have left the UGCC, even if he knew, as he did, that Danquah's UGCC had nothing but contempt for the masses with the power.
In fact, the UGCC was never a political party when they invited Nkrumah. They had all the markings of an elitist, lobbying group.
Further, love of a Nation, or more appropriately, love of Colonial Compatriots, is a 2-Way Street. Why can't we ask why Danquah and Busia failed in the same respect? After all, don't they say, "If you cannot beat them, join them"?
They got beaten by Nkrumah and the CPP more than once, but they never cared for Ghana, confederate as they were. After all, J. B. Danquah wanted Akyem Abuakwa to be the center of Ghana.
Why couldn't they stop/control the bombs, threats, and mayhem?
Why were Danquah and Busia taking money from the US Embassy, even on the eve of Ghana's independence?
We could say more!
Word!
Greetings, and thanks!

MARCUS AMPADU,
Kwame Nkrumah talked about "futuristics"!
He charted a way for Ghana's development- then, and in the future, that is still relevant today.
For our part, we talk about development, governance, and yes, history, as in "legacy". Check the record of our essays.
More important, we seek to help assemble a critical mass of essays that completely debunks the lies and distortions perpetrated on Ghanaians by the Danquah-Busia-NLC-NLM-PP confedrate losers responsible for Ghana's arrested development.
And we are doing it with data!
ITEM: If you seriously believe we must move on because Kwame Nkrumah is dead, then you probably have a low opinion about the value and importance of history and culture to the development of a Nation.
Lincoln was a divisive figure in the US. But the US still respects and honors his legacy. Today, Lincoln is an industry in a multi-state region, from Kentucky, to Illinois, to Washington DC.
On the other hand, the southern confederates and their love of the Nazi-inspired confederate flag, are in significant retreat because people kept to the mission and laid out bare their false pretenses and imagined superiority.
Imagine this: A critical mass of Ghanaians and Ghana supporters can easily develop, maintain, and sustaining a multi-million dollar Kwame Nkrumah legacy project in Ghana that can force multiply Ghana tourism investments, arrivals, and income, with far more substantial benefits to education, scholarship, governance, and research.
So, all that said, tell us where we must stand, or at the minimum, what Nkrumah brings to your "Futuristics Table", if anything.
Greetings, and thanks greatly for your comment.

The so-called professor that tried to embellish Nkrumah's economic record needs to go to School again. Those types of socialist arguments could deceive Ghanaians in the 50s and 60s, but they cannot do so now. Nkrumah was the first leader to introduce unsustainable debt into this country by borrowing massively and unnecessarily to finance his whims and caprices. It was a misfortune that we had such a person as president immediately after the independence. He didn't lay a realistic economic foundation for sustainable development of this country at all, considering the amount of money that was at his disposal in those days.
Ghana had about one billion dollars in reserve when Nkrumah took over from the colonial master. Could you imagine the value of 1bn dollars in those days? Even the lesser figure put forward by Nkrumahists would still be $20bn in today's Dollar value. Additionally, cocoa prices at the world market rocketed and increased four-fold after 2years of his rule not to mention the revenues of all the other resources in Ghana. But, contrary to any sound economic planning, he did not reserve any fraction of the windfall for a rainy day as the Whiteman had been doing. So the question is what did Nkrumah do with the revenue he got from the astronomical cocoa prices and the huge reserve he inherited that took many years to build for our financial stability and sustainable development?
The man just went on a spending spree both in Ghana and around the world, throwing his weight about and talking big. So when cocoa prices collapsed close to the end of his rule, he was quick to point an accusing finger at the West, blaming them for manipulating cocoa prices to sabotage the economy of Ghana and overthrow his government. Finally, after misusing all the money on dubious and prestigious projects, failed communist agricultural projects and whimsical mad rush industrialization projects that did not withstand the test of time, he also burdened the young nation with another billion dollars' debt before he was forced out of the country.
The truth is that, Nkrumah's ideas were not suitable for growing the economy since the communist system lacks mechanisms and incentives that release energies of the people to create wealth. He, therefore, met a rich and confident country with huge potentials and left it nearly bankrupt in some few years as a result of gross communist mismanagement and dictatorship.

ANSWER: He built quality schools to give the best education so that you can now compete with your so called "whiteman". He did not allow it for you to be a victim of infant mortality because he established numerous health care centres of quality and a medical school to churn out quality medical officers.
He left industries, ships, national airlines etc. for you and "do and plan nothings" to sell to themselves and their slave masters and pocket the money at the same time.
Nkrumah gave all Africans around the globe the dignity and personality. You must thank Osagyefo for that. What he gave us is not what money alone can buy.

\...It is in the context of all this knowledge that Ghana’s first president, soon after independence, deemed it fit and proper to concentrate on the formal school system to boost the African personality and to merge the tribes under one great banner of nationhood . Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s vision for Ghana was the elevation of the confidence of the African and the unity of the nation and her people. This vision extended beyond Ghana’s borders to include the whole of Africa. What Nkrumah conceived of nationhood made philosophical sense because without knowledge and unity, no country can claim nationhood. If ignorance makes people show greater allegiances to tribes at the expense of the nation, then the survival of the nation is under serious threat. For a country to be a nation, her people will have to subsume ethnicity under the aegis of the national interest. The present conflicts amongst the tribes, though so far verbal, is a testimony that our country comprises nations within the state. In effect, we of this generation have repudiated the concept of nationhood with our ethnic animosity and undermined the very tenets under which the nation was founded..."
