A doctor and his wife are having a fight at the breakfast table. Husband gets up in a rage and says, "And you are no good in bed either," and storms out of the house. After sometime he realizes he was nasty and decides to make amends and calls home.
She comes to the phone after many rings and the irritated husband says, "What took you so long to answer the phone?"
She says, "I was in bed."
"In bed this early, doing what?" Shouts the doctor.
"Getting a second opinion!"

What if the government pays them and if NPP wins in 2016, who will be coughing that money to continue paying their arse? NPP? The country cannot pay doctors such money and the president should stand his grounds. What of the other workers? Are they less important?

I don't know what the so-called leftists are talking about, and I don't believe NPP is behind the strikes either. As far as I know NPP is only highlighting the failings and excesses of the NDC government hopping to translate them into votes for the party in the next elections, and that is a genuine and legitimate politics since the failings are true and not false. Everybody in Ghana knows that cost of living under this government is unbearable and NPP is democratically presenting itself as an alternative and seizing the opportunity to convince the electorate not to vote for NDC in the next elections.
Frankly, I don't see anything wrong with an opposition highlighting the failings of an incapable government in order to wrest power from it democratically. NDC is responsible for the strikes because of the massive corruption, over spending, reckless borrowing and overall economic mismanagement that have characterized the regime and brought untold hardship on Ghanaians. Moreover, NDC could not frivolously spend $5bn of public money outside the budget in 2012 to buy the conscience of gullible voters, and expect everything to be normal in the subsequent years without any difficulties in our fragile economy. This is why Ghanaians are wallowing in hunger and being overtaxed.

And Ghanaba, you can't make that comparison without looking at the purchasing power of that money. Sure, perhaps Cuban doctors may want to accept $67 a month but Ghana is not a communist country and doctors have the leverage to make those demands especially when they see the corruption and the politicians living large. It's not a question of GMA or the government winning or losing. What is at stake is the nation sinking to its lowest at the time several economies all over the world are doing well. The government has no excuses to give for the poor state of the economy, but continues to maintain all the perks for its functionarie & MPs. Indeed, we've lost it, our priorities have been misplaced. We can take advantage of the improved technologies all around us, instead we've chosen a path to squandering resources we don't replace. If businesses are not running due to erratic supply of power how much is the government receiving from taxes? If there is employment freeze how many qualified people are working to run government efficiently? It means not much revenue is coming from taxes. It means the government borrows to pay its functionaries & MPs. That is where we are. Mahama is having difficulty dealing withe challenges facing the economy.
