Unlike anti-Nkrumah writers,Kwarteng is a very objective and factual writer.This explains why he made references to those eccentric writers like Ahoofe and DR SAS to support his argument.

The acceleration of economic development in Nkrumah's Ghana was comparable to that of Singapore's Lee Kwan Yew. People forget that Lee Kwan Yew's first official trip outside Singapore soon after his country's independence in 1963 was his trip to Ghana to confer with the great Osagyefo and learn from him. He went back to Singapore to replicate Ghana's development plan and in a short space of time, turn a largely marshy land into economic miracle. Today Singapore spots one of the highest income per capita in the world - $36,000 as compared to Ghana's $1,500.

As I have said many times on this forum, Dr. Nkrumah was too good for his own good. He could have incarcerated all the obstructionists - Danquah, Busia, Osei Akoto, and the rest of them for the sake of Ghana's well being. That is exactly what Lee Kwan Yew did. Lee Kwan Yew went back and quickly established a One-party rule, and was considered by many as a man well ahead of his time - the same label many accorded Osagyefo. He branded all those who opposed him as communists and incarcerated them indefinitely, which allow him to pursue his development agenda for his country.

Who knows, had Dr. Nkrumah completed his development agenda for Ghana, I believe the whole Africa would have been transformed into a giant economic success just as Singapore inspired the success of Asian Tigers. The fact is that many African countries were inspired by Ghana's success and went back and demanded their freedom from the oppressors. All it takes is one country in a region to break through to economic success, and the rest in the region will follow. So the overthrow of Nkrumah's inadvertently affected the whole continent, not only Ghana. That is exactly the result imperialists supported by local saboteurs Busia/Danquah hoped to achieve and bang on.
