It's so sad when so-called journalists covering these vultures in the image of Vodafone could not call them on the unethical business practice but tag along and being a cheer leaders for what these alligators term global practice. Global practice my a$$. Who wrote the laws and into whose favor the so-called global practice laws are written? That's the question these stomach cheer leading journalists supposed to be investigating.
Vodafone came in and took GT as a gift from Kufour in paying back what the British ambassador had done for Kufour during the election that brought him to power. The guy was on record for bragging on how he ordered indian ink for the election and went to the airport tarmac to collect it himself.
Now for all that wahala coming from a foreigner -who was playing a center roll in our national election simply because some myopic fools had given him the power to do so - there should be a pay back time. NOTHING GOES FOR NOTHING right?
Now, we should look at the time. It was 2008 and all white people's national economies were in the tank from real estates meltdown and most European nations were looking for quick fixes - anything including enslaving others if only the world could go back into "dark" ages.
Kufour who wanted to be in the good book of anti- African forces - who are very cleaver in presenting themselves to those who were educated to see the world upside down as our "DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS" - met with a demand from the devil he could not resist and the forces coming from almost bankrupt Europe were not ready to let an enterprise with full potential to make more profit than any company in Europe go to any other place on even remained Ghanaian.
The pension fund of poor European retirees that these callous and reckless fake capitalist used in a ponzi scheme got blown away in a house of cards and the pressure was on them to get a guaranteed investment in so-called emerging economies to calm down nerves in their bankrupt Europe or else their citizens might revolt into anarchy.
So what did they do?
Vodafone as a company had no money sitting down to buy no GT. So now that it was clear that K4 was ready under the cover of darkness to deliver, investment banks came together with the pension funds across Europe to put susu together into the investment of Vodafone. How much they paid remained a mystery. some put it at $900,000 but only this Monday October 12, it was reported in a news on GW as $240,000.
Now, whatever money it is was put together by shareholders who want certain amount of profit only known to Vodafone when they negotiated the investment but has nothing to do with us the slaves on whose back Vodafone is running a mediocre phone delivery.
Before Vodafone came on the scene, GT had a plan for land-line but the high profit demand from the shareholders for the upkeep of European retirees had force Vodafone to put that important aspect of telecommunication on ice. The money needed for reinvestment as promised to Ghanaians is being shipped out.
And the excused they gave our clueless politicians as regurgitated by Hanna Tetteh is we have "leap frogged".
Land line is very crucial to business. No serious industrial nation runs its businesses on cell phone but Ghanaians were made to believe it's alright to leap frog when we hardly mastered the ground where we leap frogging from, so what would happen if we crash land? Can we find our way back to analog phone? The answer is NO because we haven't mastered it properly that we could do it even if our eyes were blind folded.
So these are the crust of the matter that brought entities like Vodafone to our shores to look for guaranteed investment to look after their aging population in EU.
So you cheer leading journalists of Ghana open up your minds , eyes and ears and probe for the benefit of Ghana.
And know that certain global practices are NOT made with us Africans in mind.
