The NPP Constitution and its basic rules and regulations were in place and binding on all its members before some were elected to executive positions. So, being an elected executive member doesn't mean that you can't be disciplined according to the party's basic laws.

For example, the president of Ghana is subject to the basic laws of Ghana, and if he flouted them, he could be impeached and removed from office even though he was elected by some Ghanaians. Moreover, President Nixon was removed from office because of the Watergate Scandal.

Mr. Afoko was said to have been invited many times to defend and exonerate himself from the serious allegations leveled against him. But he failed to do so clinging to technicalities that did not help his course or that of the party, and resulted in the application of the party's disciplinary rules against him. This is the Democracy and the rule of law that exists in the NPP party, and it shows that nobody is above the law in the party.
