  Just appealing to hearts and minds alone will not garner the necessary critical mass to establish at change.
  I would say its a good try for the long run unless something very tragic happens to the masses

  You've both thrown some light on a very important matter.
  
  A country/state can transform through the mechanics of a political party that inspires the most people, or one that has more money to convince and/or fool more people.
  
  In that sense, transformation comes a dime a dozen to the extent it does not matter much once they get to the top.
  
  They get to grab the Power and the People don't, until the next election.
  
  What matters then is what values people bring to the table that inspires, convinces, and/or fools the most people.
  
  What values, if we may throw it out, ought a 3rd Party champion for all the People and their Government?
  
  Then how can/must the People hold them to account once they get to the top?
  
  Just thinking out loud, so to speak.
