Without frequent visits to the homeland, you cannot properly appreciate the situation there to adequately write about it. This concerns the situation with transport too. We may not be making great progress as a nation but our country is changing every day. Those who write about it on a daily basis must also visit frequently to see things fiili fiili and make proper accessments based on ocular evidence. It is not enough to sit in New York and read something on the Internet and comment on it.

There are many high-risks roads in the country, where many pedestrians are killed and seriously injured. The 'Tec'/KNUST stretch has been one of the most busiest and dangerous stretch of road in Kumasi. The newly constructed footbridge would indeed save lives. Why was the 'Tec' junction most accident-prone? There were traffic lights at pedestrian crossings at the 'Tec' junction but pedestrian behaviour and driver-indiscipline caused fatal accidents. In Ghana, both pedestrians and drivers routinely disobey traffic light signals and basic traffic laws. Indiscipline is one of the major causes of road traffic accidents in Ghana.
How many drivers watch out more carefully for pedestrians on our residential roads and around school zones? This is where I do agree with Dr Okoampa-Ahoofe on the need for speed bumps. Speed bumps may be ideal for slowing down traffic in residential areas and around school zones but putting them may not necessarily stop people from being killed. And speed bumps could be potentially dangerous if they're not properly designed, constructed and fully visible, especially in the dark. Of course, poorly laid speed bumps could cause damage to vehicles.
Footbridges will allow locals/pedestrians to cross very busy main roads/highways. However, without proper lighting on these footbridges and street lights around them, for fear of being robbed or violently attacked, most pedestrians may not use them especially in the night.
