This is brilliant. This uggly dog, Ahoofe with a dirty face, a fat nose and a sausage lip has now been placed on a notice. It is a shame that this dog has been teaching English to jail-birds in the US.

Ahoofe appeals to his prejudices, emotions, and special interest rather than to the intellect or reason, as by attacking one's opponents rather than debating the issues.

The Primitive Ewe, J.K. Bokor has written not more than 600 opinion pieces with difficulties in the articulation of his sentences and paragraphs. It is sometimes difficult to understand what J.K. Bokor writes because he writes articles with deviation owing the his tribal and partisan background of most of his pieces. He sometimes to amalgamates his write up with meaningless gargantuan words which in most cases render his articles senseless.

In a nutshell Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe is far better than J.K. Bokor hence his enviousness and useless attack, but then it is no wonder because that is a clear habit of most Ewe people. I know what I am saying because I am an Ewe myself.

I can deduce that you are an "Ewe". I really find pathetic and docile Ewes who advocate that we should leave the mentally warped and bigoted Akans who make it their ordained duty to rein insults, demonisation and vilification on we Ewes. Two persons, whether intellectual or not, can go head to head on a specific issue. They can even hate each other but if they are wise, mature and "really intellectual", they will leave the personal out of their public "fights".

Some of us don't believe that the best method of responding to your opponents is to adopt the same methods that he uses to attack you. A mature person will show better sense by rising beyond the petty insults and concentrate on substance alone.

Bokor says he has written 600 opinion pieces. Okoampa has written more than a thousand. Perhaps that is part of the problems of each of them. They are writing soooo many opinion pieces that they don't spend enough time to properly think of the things they write about. I personally find both of them often making shallow arguments. Bokor explains it by claiming he spends only 30 minutes on his pieces and he knows he is writing for ghanaweb (a non-academic forum) which is a sort of disrespect for the people who come to the forum.

Maybe if the two of them wrote less, and boast less of their achievements, they would be able to put more meat in their articles.

As for the charge of tribalism, some of us choose not to use the crude methods that the ignorant ones use to attack others to respond to them. People like Okoampa are incorrigible in their tribal hatreds. So you leave such people to stew in their own hatreds.

But a sense of maturity means that no matter how hot the battle becomes, one does not get personal!!!

Bokor has the right to support whatever party he likes and to not like Akufo-Addo but he must back whatever side he takes with concrete and well argued points based on solid facts. This is where I find him falling short often.

And when he goes on about being a teacher of writing, a long time commentator for GNA, his being this and that, then I want to see that reflected in his writing. But it's not.

Okoampa is the one who shows hatred of Ewes and thinks his Akyem people are superior to others. And he's been saying such things long before Bokor started writing for ghanaweb. But Okoampa is a case and the best way to treat him is to IGNORE him, not come down to his level and get personal about things.

I wonder why despite the hype about the two's educational status they boast of and take the rest of us as fools or uneducated,they don't come up with any suggestion or ideas positively to help the country out of it's doordromms.
The question I like to pose to all readers of these two's write ups on this forum or elsewhere is what good or positive impact do their constant childish disturbances do to the progress and development of this country (Ghana).
The two are a threat to the peace and stability of our country and it's about time the good people of Ghana see them as such and stop them in their vile devilish tracks.
Bokor even goes to the extend of attacking and insulting poor innocent Ghanaians who have travelled outside the country to seek a living due to lack of opportunity in their country of birth irrespective of the skills,potentials or qualifications they pocess.

There is no need to stress that Okoampa teaches at a community college. The other day you pointed out that where I taught was a "wayside" university. One may teach at any college or university, but it is what one does with his/her PhD that matters in the end. There are people at Yale, Harvard, etc. who have not done "foko" in terms of teaching and research output. I think you exemplify this statement! You won an obscure teaching award and showcased it. Some of us have won it multiple times. Stop the personal attacks. For example, what you said about Ken Ntiamoah was very childish! You are more anti-Akan and a tribalist than any writer on Ghanaweb. Okoampa writes about all national issues, you only write about Akufo-Addo, NPP, Akans in negative tribalizing ways. Even on any good day when you attempt to critique the NDC, you end up praising them. Examples abound, for instance, the "rebranding" of the buses. I wonder why you have not tackled the endemic corruption suffocating Ghana under the NDC, but rather have adopted some silly anti-Akufo-Addo crusades. As you boast of your intellectual capabilities (teaching history at the wayside Shipensburg University in Pennsylavania), you don't know that there is no hard-and-fast rule for judging who writes better, especially to a large and motley audience as visits Ghanaweb.

Go and read readers' comments on Okoampah-Ahoofe's writing style (especially the "figeyish" kind of English that he uses and if you are wise, you will revise your lousy notes about writing, especially in an online medium.

My friend, because you write the way Okoampah-Ahoofe does, you won't see any need to help me out of the tight corner into which he has pushed himself.

The journalism that I learnt and practised many years ago taught me the difference between "feature articles" and pure, high-sounding academic writing (mostly for a speech community that is narrower than Ghanaweb has). Can you reason deeply to see that what you called "sophisticaed" is rather convoluted, hackneyed, and trite, if not sterile? Come on, my friend!!

I don't come to Ghanaweb to do academic writing but feature writing to play with ideas and offer readers the opportunity to enjoy the rhetorical manouevres. That explains why I use simple, everyday English to connect with them. They may not all like my ideas or the angle from which I push them, but they come along with me.

Your talking about publishing articles in those journals doesn't wash with me. For your information, I am constantly peer-reviewing articles written by scholars all over the place; and I can tell you that a lot of their manuscripts is junk until fine-tuned by the reviewers to meet standards. From your writing, I am wont to see yours as mere junk!!

The strenuous efforts that the other reviewers and I make to fine-tune those manuscripts is known to the editors of those journals.

You are talking as if no one knows the publication process. A lot of what goes on is done by the peer reviewers to help the original writers shape up their thoughts and style to meet publishing standards.

My friend, I have been doing a lot of such assignments and can send you comments from editors if you so wish.

Much of what I peer-review is even outside my field, but because the editors know who I am, they always send manuscripts to me. Even as I write now, there are three on my desk to respond to.

Don't come and talk rubbish here about your publication accomplishments. The ideas may be yours but a lot more goes into getting your manuscripts accepted for publishing.

If you did what the reviewers suggested, the manuscript would be reviewed again and further guidance given you. All things being equal, the editor might accept your manuscript in the final analysis.

You don't seem to get it; right? Your manuscript isn't accepted for publishing immediately submitted. How do you account for the intervention of the reviewers?

YOu can plaster Ghanaweb with a tall list of publications, but the fact still remains that without the intervention other people (better writers than you are), none of your manuscripts would see the light of day.

For a PhD in English, learn to correct your own Englishes before you question other people's typos. You wrote:

No joke or boasting: I serve on several editorial boards and also review tons of manuscripts for publishing houses! What you don't know is that all articles and books pass through the mill of editorial tinkering. Also 90 percent of all articles submitted by scholars are rejected! How many peer-reviewed articles have you published? Only Ghanaweb allows you to publish essays in search of balanced perspectives!

I know there are many kinds of English and probably, the phrase, "World Englishes"; but I haven't heard of any particular individual English user having his or her own brand of "ENGLISHES"!!

For your information, I use a lot of stylistic features, including sentence fragments (incomplete sentences) for emphasis and rhetorical exercises to excite my readers. It doesn't mean that I don't know how to use complete sentence structures (something you may be bothered about/with). I pity you!!

The issue of World Englishes was first raised in 1978 to examine concepts of regional Englishes globally. Pragmatic factors such as appropriateness, comprehensibility and interpretability justified the use of English as an international and intra-national language. In 1988, at a Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, the International Committee of the Study of World Englishes (ICWE) was formed. In 1992, the ICWE formally launched the International Association for World Englishes (IAWE) at a conference of "World Englishes Today", at the University of Illinois, USA.[1] There is now an academic journal devoted to the study of this topic, titled World Englishes.[2]

Currently, there are approximately 75 territories where English is spoken either as a first language (L1) or as an unofficial or institutionalized second language (L2) in fields such as government, law and education. It is difficult to establish the total number of Englishes in the world, as new varieties of English are constantly being developed and discovered.

Folks, do you see how hollow this empty braggart is as far as language control and use are concerned?

When my native American English-using undergraduate students write "YOUR" as used by Kwabena Akurang-Parry in this structure, I quickly tell them that they are confused by what they hear and how English should be used in writing. They confuse the possessive pronoun "YOUR" (as in "your book") with the pronoun "(You") as used for case-making as a subject (or an objective, depending on the context; e.g., "This book is for you") when combined with the verb "are" (often shortened as "you're"). E.g., "You're joking."

In the colloquial setting, "you're" often sounds like "your". But in writing, no!!

So, for a whole professor of history, a so-called judge of other people's writing skills, to not know the difference between both usages is really pathetic!!

Instead of saying "Your free to take sides", my friend, say "You're (you are) free to take sides", which is the acceptable standard English usage. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! Brofoyedru ampa!!!!!

Folks, do you see I laugh at such characters?

In your case, what did you do? Yours is a structural defect, an error of language use, not a typographical mistake. Can you see the difference between an "error" and a "mistake" in this sense?

Yours is a fossilized problem of language use (Error and Contrastive Analysis should help you know this problem better, if you really are into that area).

My friend, come for more free tutorials so you stop messing up here.

Meantime, my challenge to you stands. Move away from the over-simplistic and ridiculous writing style of stringing words (and boring words too!!) together that constituted your writing under the Akadu Mensema name. Come close to writing prose on a specific topic of interest to you so we can see how you write. Otherwise, keep deceiving yourself even as you expose your hollowness.

There is nothing absolutely sophisticated or stretched about it, as Akurang-Parry puts it. Maybe I am biased because of my familiarity with the writings of most of the world's most sophisticated writers in human history.

I don't spend more than 2/3 minutes reading his longest article, if I read any at all. This is because, like I said before, his writings are overly simplistic in their logical architecture. His vocabulary is not above average. Nothing peculiar.

Please ignore him.

By winning this 26th edition of this prestigious award, Dr. Bokor has made Ghana and Africa proud. He is the first Ghanaian (and African, for that matter) to have won this award since its establishment in 1988. Moreover, Dr. Bokor is the first and only Ghanaian (and African, for that matter) to be recruited as full-time faculty member of the Department of English of the Richard L. Conolly College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Brooklyn Campus, since the establishment of the Long Island University in 1926.

He noted that the interaction of teacher and student is the foundation of any educational experience, adding “and I lend my appreciation for your part in setting the standard for Long Island University.”

Dr. Bokor teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses in composition, technical and professional writing, general linguistics, and editing, among others. He also directs graduate students’ theses, mentors undergraduate students and Graduate Teaching Fellows, and co-advises the African Students Association. He is the chair of the Conolly College Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.

His publication (“Moving International Technical Communication Forward: A World Englishes Approach,” published in the Journal of Technical Writing and Communication, 41(2), (2011): 113–138, was nominated for a national award of the 2012 Conference on College Composition and Communication in the category of “Best Article on Philosophy or Theory of Technical or Scientific Communication.” Dr. Bokor is a product of the University of Cape Coast (Bachelor of Arts) and the Illinois State University in the United States (Ph.D. in English Studies). He was the first Ghanaian to be enrolled for graduate studies in the English Department of the Illinois State University since its establishment in 1859.

He is currently Assistant Professor of African and World History at the Department of History and Philosophy, Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. He specializes in colonial and contemporary Africa, with a research focus on the social and economic history of Ghana.
