The so called Antoa Nyamaa and many other powerless and untruthful gods are what they are today because of the hype some irresponsible politicians and key public figures give to this useless deities.
Could you believe that while growing up Salaga in the former East Gonja District, every school kid, from primary to secondary schools, ware made to foolishly believe that the Mallams could help us pass exams. So during any peak exams period you could see almost all candidates trooping to the shrines of these cola nut chewing Mallams, carrying our maths sets, T- squares, pens, pencils and erasers and in fact any tool that aid in taking a test. The believe was that when these Mallams pray of these exam tools you will pass. But that was a false believe. We were failing exams in our numbers. However there was something that I noticed from these Mallams as kid. They were using phychology rather than some supernatural powers to hoodwink and extort money from us. These Mallams found out most of us in those days had our hairs infested with lots and lots of LICE( Eddie) which could distract us from concentrating on our work during exams. So what they use to do was that, after performing the rituals on our tools, they examine your bodies for clues, such as lice and sores, that could be distractive. They would then advise you to go and shave or dress your sores properly before going in for the exam. Your see the Mallams themselves know they have no whooteeeee but won't tell you because that is they way they also make their monies.

My fellow, OKATAKYIE SARPONG, I have to say I don't often listen to Ghanaian radios because I don't find most of the radio discussions that interesting. However, here in London, the Charity-Twumasi 'Abrokyire Nkratasem' or Twumasi's ordeal is not uncommon. Very often, such stories are told of how fellow Ghanaians have been badly treated, cheated, blackmailed, used and dumped.

While you may not believe in the powers of these deities and curses, some people do. Belief in deities and invoking curses is a common practice in Ghana, because traditionally, most Ghanaians believe in deities, demonic figures and witchcraft. Certainly, there has always been the belief that a person could curse his/her wrongdoer as happened in Twumasi-Charity case. But whether Charity suffered her own terrible misfortune or is being tormented by curses invoked by Twumasi cannot be dismissed in whatever people believe in.

Even in the Bible, curses were invoked. In today's world, some people believe in God but some don't. Indeed, it's all about what people believe, feel strongly about, and frighteningly fear.

It is really sad some Ghanaians like Charity take advantage of fellow Ghanaians who need their help and defraud them. I am not by this article supporting what Charity did but if you listen to this Twumasi guy bragging about what he has supposedly done, it will make you vomit.

Okatakyie, whether anybody believes in these deities is their right to do so. What I found appalling is the radio stations propagating this archaic nonsense and scaring some people in believing it.

I remember in 1998 when I went to Ghana and a close family member had been cursed by the wife for denying cheating with other women. They told me the wife has cursed him by invoking the powers of Antoa Nsuo nyamaa and three other deities and they have to provide six sheep's and other things to reverse the curse. I told them point blank those useless deities are not going to have a feast of sheep meal if they are depending on me to sponsor their party. You can imagine how my village family members reacted. They started fleeing from my presence else what might be coming to me from their useless deities might afflict them too.

Now anytime I go to the village some of them in friendly way tells me that I am a witch.

Sorry my friend, these useless things have no powers to bring about anybody's demise, it is all psychological.

I stopped believing that nonsense in Ghana long before I came to USA. Some of us went to secondary school where we met some believers in Mallams and Fetish Priests who promised us they can take us to these fraudsters who can charm some young ladies we have a crush on and they couldn't deliver. Some Mallams and Fetish Priests promised our football teams matches we were going to win which we lost. Mr Atta Owusu, it was from these experiences that changed me.

How can any human being believe that these useless gods can give them winning lotto numbers? How can you believe that these gods can influence the Embassies in Ghana to give you visas?

Antoa Nsuo Nyamaa is so powerful even those who believe in its powers ended up stealing some ornaments from it and it took the investigative powers of Ghana Police to catch them not Antoa, huh?

My belief is that if you do good in your life, you get the reward when you are living and when you do bad, you get your punishment on this earth. That is what I believe.
