  Excellent piece and I do agree with the writer 1000%. I was a teacher from November 1995 to January 1999 and I must confess that I used the cane on some students. But that was my last result and after uncountable pieces of advice and warnings.
  I believed in the Bible "Spare the rod, spoil the child" principle. But at the same time I never used the cane just because I have the power and right to. I hated it myself I was a kid and therefore tried not to use it except on those few occasions.
  I do agree we should abolish it all together.
