CAPITALISM IS NOT EQUAL TO DEMOCRACY: Businessmen and entrepreneurs have no business running government. The pastor is a capitalist. Like others who think they run government, they are capitalists first and foremost with vested interest in making profits and amassing wealth, property and power. Power, they use to create more profits and wealth.

When businessmen and entrepreneurs run government, what Ghana gets is not democracy but OLIGARCHY, a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique of businessmen and women, their children, and sycophants.

The pastor and others who accept the anti-democratic idea may benefit but not millions of Ghanaians.

The argument that such people with businesses will create jobs and good employment has always been false because in almost all cases they pay lower wages and if they control government, they will get rid of minimum wages controls, pension etc, so they can make more profit.

Yes, a few of the executives and may be middle-level management may get ahead but the overwhelming majority always suffers and is regarded as depending on the business class and their magnanimity. Whilst in reality they depend on them and feed on them by paying them low wages.

Yes, government can open doors to businesses, support businesses and get rid of bureaucratic bottle-necks. And yes, there is nothing wrong with making profits and getting wealthy. But there is proof enough through history that business interests are not same as democratic needs of a people.

Along the coast and inland, some people who saw themselves as businessmen and entrepreneurs sponsored slave raids and sold people into slavery for profit and to amass wealth. In the twenty-first century, businessmen and their class, will operate the same way, put profits ahead of the welfare of ordinary citizens unless citizens have a mechanism to control them.

If they run the government, they have all the power to do whatever they want. Who controls them?

CAPITALISM IS NOT EQUAL TO DEMOCRACY because even though shareholders vote, those who have millions shares have more votes than those with tens or hundreds of shares and, therefore, property and power.

Businessmen and entrepreneurs because they have money, wealth and property belief they have the capability and wisdom to run government, but it is one person one vote that matters and the only guarantee Ghanaians have against anti-democratic desires.

The pastor and others who think like him will benefit from oligarchs and will be oligarchs because they are wealthy and have access to power, but Ghanaians will suffer and their democratic single votes made irrelevant. Ghanaians can do better than that while demanding government to be efficient and effective. Away with an unreasonable idea and claim to wisdom that cannot make Ghana better.

Even the chief capitalist country on this earth, the United States of America, has government hospitals, VA hospitals, and all states have hundreds of state universities, state taxes pay for roads and the federal government builds interstate highways. In Germany, health insurance companies are non-profit organizations and controlled by government that is not run by businessmen and is not in the hands of entrepreneurs, so what is the Pastor talking about? Do not fool Ghanaians with wrong undemocratic ideas.

I am not questioning Otabil's right to free speech for that matter. In fact, I have made this quite clear in this particular article as well as in the prequel.

The fact that I acknowledge his right to free expression and cosncience does not mean I should gullibly agree with everything he says. Neither do I expect him to accept everything I say.

After all, both of us are fallible human beings. I don't think you are suggesting that Otabil is infallible.

If he is not, then I hope all my readers witll allow me to say my mind just as you are freely exercising your right to free speech and of conscience.

If I may add, I expect him to do the same with regard to the contents of this this series. I hope you have gone back to read what I have to say about the role religion and religious leaders can play in national development.

They are not capable of dissecting issues and responding in the appropriate manner. They turn to attacking personalities. This is not good.
