It is informative "stuff" indeed. It's too bad that we have taken over an establishment without giving much thought to what caused its demise.

I respect Nana Ama Amamoo for such a nice story but that is all it is, a story. The broadcast of Fuhrer Nkrumah's overthrow was heard earlier than 6am on February 24, 1966 and this story of her mother sending her to school that morning in February when everybody was told to stay home could not have happened. Are we expected to believe your mother sent a six year old to school about 6.30 am when classes start at 8am?
Soldiers pointing guns at the head of a little six year old girl and a Policeman stepping in to rescue you is an embellishment intended to show how callous and wicked the Army is and this is just a figment of imagination.
Fuhrer Nkrumah made the 1966 coup legitimate when he unilaterally denied the citizens the right to vote him out if they wanted to by making himself President for life and a one party state.
It is not true the overthrow of Fuhrer Kwame Nkrumah arrested the development of Ghana. The deterioration of Ghana started under the watch of Fuhrer Nkrumah in 1964 after he had ran through the over two hundred million pounds left to him by the colonial masters.
Ghanaians for the first time in history started to queue for essential commodities like soap, sugar and etc.
Whilst Fuhrer Kwame Nkrumah was publicly railing against the "evil imperialists" behind the scenes, he was on his knees begging Britain and USA to finance his budgets. All the economic statistics started going negative starting from 1964.
Thank Kotoka and his gallant colleagues for removing that brutal tyrant called Fuhrer Kwame Nkrumah and giving Ghanaians their real independence on February 24, 1966.

Ama Amamoo you have every right to recollect what you want to. But some of us will not allow you to describe the 66 coup as dastardly act or illegal. If there is any illegility in this world, it was Nkrumah turning the country into a one party state, it was Nkrumah imprisoning people without trial, it was Nkrumah indoctrinating young minds to believe that he was greater than God.You were lucky to have your parents with you on that day. Some children at that time had their parents locked up at Nsawam without charge. To those children their salvation came on the day of the 66 Coup. That day was a day of salvation against tyranny, it was day against brutality, It was a day against oppression and suppression, it was a day against dictatorship , it was a day against nonsense and stupidity all in the name of politic. So Ama, please do not expose your ignorance and make yourself liable for the anger and pain of some of us. The 66 Coup came not only for the opponents of Nkrumah but also for the very close confidants of Nkrumah who had been caught in a web without any means to escape. Please ask Gbedemah, Kwaku Boateng, Krobo Adusei, Kwadjo Botsio, kwaku Baako etc. They were all gaping sycophants who needed the 66 coup to come and rescue them and give them their manhood that they had lost to Nkrumah. If you do not know please do not inflict us with your ignorance. The 66 Coup will forever remain the day of liberation the day of salvation the true day of independence and the day that lifted Ghana from the doldrums of slavery and oppression of a black man by a black man.

Has it ever occurred to you that he may not have ever exercised and journalistic independence under Nkrumah ' s tyranny?

February 24, 1966 will forever etch in the brain of every well-meaning Ghanaian as the day our country died, never to be resurrected. The traitors brought in the paralyzing duo, the IMF and and World Bank, to nail Ghana's coffin and since then, our country has never been the same.
Thank you for the memories. Unfortunately and sadly, such is the the duplicitous nature of the African.

Kwabena Yeboah, you don't know what you are talking about. If bringing IMF or the world bank into the system makes one a traitor, then Fuhrer Nkrumah was a traitor because he was the first President of Ghana to go there.

1965: Ghana Rejects IMF and World Bank Advance, Continues with Import Substitution.
Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah rejects IMF and World Bank recommendations to implement a economic development strategy based on non-inflationary borrowing and reduced government spending. Ghana’s refusal to implement these reforms makes it ineligible to receive loans from the two institutions. Nkrumah continues with a policy aimed at diversifying the Ghanaian economy through import substituting industrialization (ISI). Hahahaha, Kwabena, that was very clever, , I read the same thing and actually intend to cut and paste that as an article to show to you Nkrumah worshippers who falsely propagate that if Nkrumah had not been overthrown, Ghana would have been an utopia. Where you quoted that information from also shows Nkrumah had destroyed a healthy economy by that time in 1965.
Did you read too that between 1964 to 1966, Fuhrer Nkrumah had accumulated $500 million debt after he had spent all the money left by the colonial masters?
Did you also read that in just one year between 1964 and 1965, Fuhrer Nkrumah had destroyed the economy so bad inflation that was less than 1% in 1964 has gone up to over 26%? Inflation had gone up by over 25% in just one year.
Now that you believed that part of the story, yes, Fuhrer Nkrumah joined IMF and World Bank in September1957 and approached IMF for help in 1965, though he didn't accept the IMF terms at that time and within six months was overthrown with the same problem he went to IMF for not solved and only God knows what else Fuhrer Nkrumah would have done to solve the myriad of economic problems his unguided spending had done.
It is easy to do things when you have money as Fuhrer Nkrumah had when he assumed office. A lot of others could have done what Fuhrer Nkrumah did with the money the newly minted independent Ghana had and maybe more if Nkrumah would not have used tend of millions of pounds trying to be President of Africa.
Hopefully when that article hit the forum, you will not sing a different tune like you are now singing and say it is not a true reflection of what was going on in the later part of that Cpp misrule.
I set up the trap and you are now caught in it.
President Kufuor for what he did with a hipc country would have done better than what Nkrumah did with a vault full of money. Kufuor record if compared to Nkrumah with what situation both operated in during their Presidencies show that Liquor was a better President.
If you think this is not true, compare Fuhrer Nkrumah between 1964-66 which was not even acute economically compared to what Kufuor met in 2001 and you will realize Kufuor is more industrious than Nkrumah, what says you, comrade Yeboah?

You have absolutely no knowledge of Ghana's economic history and always formulate your various discourses not with facts, but based on ethnocentrism. It is a waste of my time to have a meaningful discourse with an ethnocentric individual such as you and I must therefore end it here, my friend.

So are you ethnocentric because you do not like Kufuor or Npp? Who made Ghana a HIPC country? Stop your childish behavior and act like a grown up that you are. You always come up with your own lies. I know more about Ghana's economic history than you do. Act like a grown up, will you?
