1. What do you think Ghana would have become if Nkrumah had not been overthrown?
2. Don't you think Nkrumah created conditions ripe for his own Nemesis?
3. Do you think Ghana's independence and Nkrumah's firebrand African Personality pose and his fiery and incessant vituperations against the West wouldn't have drawn their ire by irking them to snuff him out?
4. Don't you think Rawlings was bought by the West again to clear the Generals who cleared Nkrumah?

Your questions, Mr. Kweku Donsuro, presupposes Ghanaians are either cowards, lacking in foresight or cowards looking for direction from a strong man. It is what we are as a people that determines our fate; we are tribal in Ghana and that has not changed. Since Nkrumah left the scene we have not liked any government and that should give you all the answers you need. We are ever so hateful to governments headed by "minority" tribesmen and even when governments by "majority" tribesmen have failed the majority tribe elevate their dunce to heroic status. We simply do not have a measure for failure or success in Ghana since 1966 and that is the true legacy of Nkrumah.

MThe coup leaders were in the persons of J.W.K. Harley (IGP), A. K. Deku, Lt Col Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, Lt Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa, Maj Ocran, among others.
The retired veteran 2nd World War soldier, Lt Gen J.A. Ankrah, was invited by the coup leaders to lead the National Redemption Council (NRC).
In 1966, we had National LIBERATION Council.
When the coup took place, Afrifa was a MAJOR, Kotoka was a Colonel.
The ranks listed againt the names of Afrifa and Kotoka are all incorrect.
24th February 1966, Afrifa was a Major. Kotoka was a Colonel.
Cheers

Kwesi Attah, for your information, John Hammond, the ace broadcaster with the beautiful silky voice moved later to the Netherlands to work with the (Nederlands Wereld Omroep) "world service" in the studios in Hilversum, until his retirement.
Later, he went back home to spend some quality life in his Kanda Estate residence before death took hold of him some years back. This, i know because i was very close to him until his death.
He was actually in the studios of the GBC when independence was announced, therefore, there's the need to celebrate him.
He was a true gentleman, loved by all who had the opportunity to come in contact with him.
May his gentle soul rest in peace!

Again, another great contribution to this momentous occasion, 50th year of the Ghana coup!
ITEM: If we may, it did not happen that Ankrah was simply "invited" to lead the coup 24 February, 1966.
That is a lie, misinformation....
It is part of the coup plotters' narrative that requires a strong push-back. (It is a fabrication!).
FROM OUR ESSAY ON THE OTHER SIDE:
1. General Ankrah was already recruited by US, by Feb, 1964.
FROM JOHNSON LIBRARY EXTRACT FROM 1964 MEMO:
"....236. Memorandum = Washington, February 11, 1964, 3 p.m.//
//....SUBJECT: Discussions with Secretary Rusk, 11 February 1964
//.... Discussed the Ghana situation...despite denials there was no question in our minds that Nkrumah and others in his government were behind the anti-American agitation in Ghana. Advised the Secretary that I felt the substantial aid programs, including the Volta Dam and the Aluminum Project should be reviewed in view of Nkrumah’s attitude and that I thought that he might have a sensitive situation on the Hill unless this was done. The Secretary asked whether General Ankrah might not take over. I...thought that if it was desired to develop something, we might work with the British on a joint program...I suggested this be discussed with Home(British)...".
Ankrah was the "Chosen Leader" from the get go!
We would not bother - if we did not think that it is a record of history that needs to be "corrected" and properly assimilated by all conscious Ghanaians, Africans, and Peace-Loving Peoples.
