A much needed write up to inform Ghanaians that it is time to turn to renewable energy. Time to make conscious effort to transfer Ghana's energy technology to renewable-energy systems.
The western nations achieved their level of development by using energy technologies based largely on fossil fuels, at a time when fossil fuels were inexpensive.
In my candid opinion, some of us didn't get it all wrong as suggested by Mr. Patrick Asare. Climate change has brought a new perspective to the need to ween the world away from fossil fuel energy in the 21st century. And the Mahama administration must do everything possible to shift the fossil fuel-based energy pattern of the 20th century that relies heavily on coal & oil to be replaced largely with renewables - solar energy, wind farms, geothermal, energy-to-waste conversion systems, bio-fuels, & OTEC (ocean thermal-energy conversion).
Can the president direct our universities to set up research institutes to teach renewable energy technologies? And/or send technicians from India to come and show us how to install rooftop photovoltaic panels?

It amazes me that we don't learn from nations that have overcome our challenges. Countries like India and Morocco. We pay too much attention to vision less politicians and charlatan pastors. It has been more than four decades since our first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, talked about using solar energy. Fast forward into dumsor, with our blinders on.

We have to act on history, and solve problems ith the historical perspective, even as e look forward!
In the numerous essays we've written on the topic of renewable energy (solar, hydro, bio-mass), we've never addressed climate change as a policy goal. Not that it is not important in this age.
No!
Rather, because, we believe that those economies directly responsible for the associated harms ought to be challenged by those impacted who did not have a hand in creating that, to solve them. (We've began to see some Pacific Islander nations doing that).
Point is, we understand that Ghana must address Ghana's present day problems, and the solution is in Solar, Bio-Mass, Hydro! It is certainly NOT in coal.
As you, Osei Boakye, have noted, "...Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, talked about using solar energy...".
As such, if we were true to ourselves and sufficiently reflective, we cannot merely, as MARCUS AMPADU does, ask "Can the president direct our universities to set up research institutes to teach renewable energy technologies? And/or send technicians from India to come and show us how to install rooftop photovoltaic panels?".
SANKOFA!

From where we sit, the inspiration is telling people, reminding them, that Ghana first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, had that policy for Ghana, more than 50 years ago!
It is important to promote that fact!
The principle and policy Mr. Mahama we be championing, if he decided to do it actively, would therefore not be new.
That is exactly what we mean by "SANKOFA"!

please do well to the many challenges that come along with using solar energy. all we do is talk. cost of installation alone compare to output is high, fact is that we can have a policy for adding solar energy to our national mix, let's say we set a target of 15 - 20%. but to wholly depend on solar is improbable.

WE WILL ADD: You only buy Solar Power panels and fixtures once, during the 15-25 year life-cycle.
But not coal!
ITEM: In that respect, Mr Mahama, the VRA, and the Ghana Energy Minister, etc., are outsourcing employment to South Africa, China, and other foreign countries.
Reckon, in deed!
