Yes, Bawumia has a PhD in economics and he may have done well in his studies.

But the man is being overrated as an economist by NPP supporters. There are many Ghanaians of Bawumia's age who also did PhD in economics whose theses rate higher than Bawumia's and were obtained in more prestigious universities. They have also published better papers than Bawumia who used political connections to jump over many of his seniors to become deputy governor of BoG.

If Bawumia is in politics, then we have to threat him as a politician, not as an economist. He is not the best economist in Ghana!

Partisanship and tribal foolishness covers you from head to toe, Ofosua. The Ghana cedi has at no time in its existence been equal or equivalent in value or purchasing power as the US dollar period. But if you and other NPP talking head would only let common sense prevail you would come to understand what the article was about.

If there is no denomination for change what happens if a buyer makes payment for a piece of fish or kenkey that requires change? It is in that scheme that sellers decided to raise prices to equal the nearest new denomination. The issue is not about currency redenomination but its effects on economic activities. Let me say this to you and others who have not read and heard words from PhD holders they would not accept as the gospel truth even when they are lies and unsubstantiated untruths; a new CEO or executive of a bad company who does not implement a new employee culture and or new policies that would become standard best practices and procedures on a daily basis is not a leader worth a dime. Dr. Bawumia cannot point to any BoG policy changes or best practices and procedure put in place at the BoG during his tenure that was ignored when he left. He is a show horse for partisans because idiots abound in Ghana needing someone to lead then by the nose to the slaughter house.

Why does Dr Bawumia surprise me all the time?
1. First he claims credit for all the policy decisions of the Bank of Ghana during Kuffour's regime. So what did Dr Acquah do at the BoG. In fact Dr Bawumia was appointed by President Kuffour as a deputy way way after Dr Acquah had been there as the Governor.So if one of the two deputies is claiming credit for everything, was Dr Acquah (a far better economist and experienced banker)such a dunce doing fokoo. During the re-denomination exercise, I never saw Dr Bawumia explaining anything but I sat in a lecture at Legon addressed by Dr Acquah. he was on TV everywhere not Bawumia.
2. Dr Bawumia does not actually talk economics (at least I have a master's in Finance). He talks convenient political rhetorics.
3. He goes about promising things which do not make economics sense. For example what is the economics sense in restoring allowances to teacher trainees and nursing trainees in colleges of education and nurses training colleges when there are Universities of Education and Cape Coast training teachers who do not receive such allowances? what about all the distance learning trainees? What is the economics in this? And where is he going to get the money from? Government is a continuity.
4. He says Ghana is borrowing too much and the government is taxing too much which I agree but he has so far not mentioned how they will increase revenue but he is promising how he will spend more money. From where?
5. To date, I have not seen any alternative economics policy being sold by Dr Bawumia apart from criticizing and insulting those who manage the economics now.
6. What is Dr Bawumia's actual experience in economics apart from the short time at the BoG and his now famous you and I were not there lectures at Central University.
