I respect Rawlings because he handed over peacefully.There was no need for supreme court.Rawlings is not perfect but he did not rig elections or bribe judges to allow his party to stay in power at all cost.That is a man I can respect.In Uganda the opposition leader was imprisoned till polling day.

I know one committed the crime of taking a loan. The others were said to be corrupt . Since presumably you have some intellect, I have no doubt you understand that a person will have to do something specific before he can be described as corrupt.
Unfortunately rawlings took advantage of idiots like you who dance to the tune of soundbites without actually understanding what is going on and even sing along.

Be honest to history and you will admit the anger of the people at the time was the reason they were executed ..The anger of People to the corruption by these guys lead to their execution ... for you to come portray them now like they were some innocent folks does no one any good .... they were executed ... not murdered .. they were tried and sentenced to death ...you may not like the verdict but the people wanted it...

Remember what happened to Nkrumah and his legacy after he was overthrown? same thing the anger of the people was on display when Rawlings took over ... it is not about being brain washed or SoundBits... these guys were not choir boys , they were corrupt ...very corrupt and they run the country to the ground... you remember where we used to buy stamps? at makola , not the post office ... you may either have a short memory or are just plain ignorant of the fact of the 79 coup... the scale of corruption today may be greater but it was worse back then

This man Kwame Okuanpa hates Rawlings with venom.His emotional outburst have to be appreciated because he was badly affected by the revolution.Unfortunately the objective of the revolution was to cleanse the system of corrupt elements monopolysing and manipulating the economy to illegally amass wealth.His family was badly affected because they belonged to gang of white collar criminals fleecing the nation.In the days of the PNDC revolution we call it 'kalabule'. Indeed the revolution went after these criminals and appropriately dealt with them in line with it's objective of probity and accountability in the interest of social justice.It is easy for the likes of Kwame Akauanpa to refer to Rawlings as a murderer or butcher and in the process indict and belittle his thinking as an astute intellectual.That is why we have emeritus professors,professors and doctors who cannot apply common sense and logic in problem solving because they are not pragmatic.It also betray our role as intellectuals on educating people about issue based and development oriented politics instead of pettiness informed by extreme politico-tribal sentiments,ethnic hate and prejudice.I am emphasizing on this because i have seen Kwame Okauanpa written articles launching scathing,vicious verbal assault on the current President John Mahama and Jerry Rawlings, his eternal enemy because of their ethnic inclination.This time around he comes with another ingenious article in an attempt to portray Jerry Rawlings as a corrupt murderer as usual by referring to 800 acres of farm lands illegally acquired by his wife.I can assure Mr.Kwame Okauanpa that Jerry Rawlings will win any democratic election,any day,any time against anybody if the constitution granted that because he is very popular and very much like by majority Ghanians not the few corrupt elites like him affected by the revolution.This is a statement of fact any right thinking Ghanaian with common sense knows.A measure of his popularity is the fact that some people particularly the old folk in rural Ghana still think he is the President of the Republic.How do i know this?It is because i am in Ghana and do simple observational studies as a pragmatic scientist despite not being an anthropologist instead of writing wild articles abroad based on conjecture,emotional outburst and personal vendetta.I completely disagree with persons like Kwame who try to denigrate and black mail the essence of the PNDC Revolution and Rawlings as a person in bringing about a positive change in this country.First and foremost the country was in a state of anarchy and would have collapsed without the intervention of a Rawlings led revolution.Secondly the revolution brought about huge transformational changes bridging development gap between the rich south mainly Akans and poor northern, volta regions and even some areas of BA.To see northerners occupy high position in government including the current President and civil service today is because of Rawlings' deliberate policy in empowering people from deprived areas with potential by building its human resource base.Count the number of doctors including Cuban trainees and other intellectuals from deprived areas of north,volta and BA through scholarship schemes by the PNDC government and their impact on the country's socioeconomic advancement.Any objective minded Ghanaian therefore know Rawlings played huge role in bridging social gap between the poor and rich Ghanaian through social equity and social justice which in no doubt brought about immense socioeconomic advancement.It is also an unpardonable mistake and seemingly illogical to single Rawlings out and condemn him for the excesses of the revolution by some unscrupulous individuals who had their own agenda some of which he himself admitted he was unaware of at the time of the heat.Even kids like me at the time were part of the CDR Boys' Scout Brigade in the north and often reported people involved in suspected nefarious and criminal activities for action.Information given maybe wrong and action by leadership maybe inappropriate.It must also be made clear that it was not everybody including leading figures of the revolution who believe in the principles of probity and accountability for social justice.Again there were certainly traitors and infiltrators with their own agenda.Sometimes i find it highly ridiculous and ludicrous when people point to corruption scandals of the current NDC government under John Mahama requesting to know the essence of much hyped probity and accountability during the PNDC regime.When Rawlings talked about prosecution of corrupt public officials,his own party members and government condemned it as undemocratic as we were not in a military era.yet the opposition take him to the cleaners for not being vocal against the corruption scandals under the John Mahama administration.Even party members of the NDC perceived to be Rawlings loyalist who believe in the PNDC dogma of probity and accountability have suffered various degrees of victimization including dismissal from public institutions by a largely corrupt system.It is therefore quit laughable for people like Mr.Kwame Okuaunpa to mount a persistent relentless assault at Jerry Rawlings blaming him for all atrocities and corruption under the PNDC regime.Did Blaise Campore,a close pal and comrade of the great Marxist Revolutionary of Burkina Faso Thomas Sankara whom he murdered(to use kwame's word) to take over power believe in his socialist ideology? I don't think so particularly in the midst of western influence who want to see Africa corrupt and underdeveloped to be exploited.Otherwise one of the things the IMF and the World Bank should be doing with donor fund is to help enforce strict anti-graft measures and fiscal discipline in Africa and in Ghana specifically and that will bring about total economic freedom because we lose a lot of money through corruption and financial malfeasance.Jerry Rawlings is a great anti-corruption crusader and socialist who stand for social equity and social justice in the interest of the poor masses.No amount of false propaganda to depict him as a corrupt murderer will ever hold.A measure of his incorruptibility and integrity was once again vindicated as his name was not mentioned in the recent report of corruption scandals by African Leaders in the so-called Panama Papers.
