Ghanaian are wide awake to the realities on the ground and the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)a right wing wing think tank and Prof Ezekiel Nii Noye Nortey's forecast which was mostly based on assumption and statistical dishonesty can not be taken seriously. It seems to me that these forecasters come across to me like interested parties.
Mahama is in his first term of his presidency and he is seeking a second term in accordance with the constitution. There should be no doubt about that, the fact that he is allowed to contest is evidence enough that to prove that he has only done a term of his presidency.
Ghanaian are also aware of the npp deliberate chicanery and waste of the countries time in the so called petition case which cheated the country of virtually two years and brought the country to a standstill because the npp want to come to power through fair or foul means.
There is also the infrastructure on the ground.Roads, hospitals.schools and a lot more visible things that will give the Mahama administration a one touch. The npp house is a divided house and a divided house can not stand so says the the holy book.A party that is all quarreling can unite our country. In fact they will cause chaos.
A second term for Mahama will consolidate the achievements which had been achieved in the face of open sabotage and negative efforts to derail and destabilize the ndc like the chas in the npp.

MASSA KOFI, come November 2016, Ghanaian voters would have a choice between the NDC and NPP. No disrespect to the other parties, they aren't in the same league as the two major parties. I'm not going to write off Nana Akufo-Addo/NPP's chances of winning the next general election but to be honest, it's likely President John Mahama/NDC will win the 2016 General Election.
Clearly, while the NDC Government has badly mismanaged the economy with increasing national debt, low economic growth and productivity, high unemployment, overburdening families with huge utility bills, and a government caught in huge corruption scandals. On the other hand, the scale of challenges facing the Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP internally, and from the incumbent NDC party are huge. The combination of factors of weak leadership, suicidal infightings and suspensions, lack of money, lack of campaign strategy and poor recruitment and campaign drive especially in the rural areas seriously undermines NPP's chances of winning the next election. And it appears the NPP has failed to learn lessons of the past.
The idea that Rawlings and Kufour governments were given two terms is not an absolute basis for any argument for retaining President Mahama or that a precedent has been established. Rawlings and Kufour won their two term elections under different circumstances. I think taking full advantage of incumbency has been a crucial deciding factor.

I don't think you will vote for the NDc base on your own assessment on the performance of the incompetent administration of Mahama. It will therefore take a courageous idiot to vote the NDC simply because of the internal wrangling in the NPP. And who said there in no internal problem with the NDC. The Ghanaian electorate of today are not as dumb as you think. For me the only way the Ndc can retain power is solely rest on the stupid EC that we have.

Sure postulates they are, but well thought out. However, discerning Ghanaians cannot be hoodwinked by the crass corruption, dumsor and incessantly high taxes they have been subjected to over the past few years. If you lived in Ghana, you would understand the mood of the people, but living where you are and watching from that distance, it is easy to postulate. Infrastructure does not a happy people make. When the value of the cedi is always on the slant predictions premised on Mahama's campaign lies do not convince any discerning Ghanaian. Notwithstanding the so-called factional breakup in the NPP, Ghanaians would rather prefer Nana Addo to Mahama administration racked with nepotism, tribalism and all the ill effects of corruption. We are a people too, man!!!

Kofi, your piece is great as usual. You dont fail to impress me. The article is objective to the core. I believe that one element that you should have drummed up as Nana's main problem it the perceived lack of cohesion in the NPP. It is seen as a divided house and both sides are blaming each other. Politics, as they say, is a game of numbers. What is the guarantee that the suspended officials and their supporters will turn out to vote for Nana Addo?

This article spends too much space on the two-term factor. As such it gives too much importance to that factor.
The professor's predictions may not be correct but not for the reasons adduced in the article. Kofi says the conditions are not the same to base analysis on previous results. But no conditions are the same in any elections anywhere in the world. That doesn't mean predictions based on previous elections cannot be relevant. Kofi could have based his dismissal on the actual statistical methods used. Apparently, he doesn't know that.
If Mahama wins, he will make history for leading a party that wins three consecutive victories. But it is hasty to conclude that he will also make history as the longest serving president in the Fourth Republic. That claim can be made only if he actually passes that mark. It is not enough to make the claim on the possibility of his doing so.
The analysis says absolutely nothing about personality characteristics that are very important in Ghanaian politics. Many in Ghana still vote for personalities rather than on the issues. We have an opposition candidate whose personal characteristics have been questioned a lot. Whether all the accusations made about him are true or not, they are going to influence some independent voters.
