Ruth, you live in Norway where they practice proportional representation and do not have a presidential system. What you term a "wasted vote" is by definition and implication, different from the first past the post system we practice in Ghana on which you base your analysis.
Everybody, except you, Ruth, know Nduom is not going to win in December. A vote for him will only be a protest vote but not one that will enable him win. If most people thought like you, Ruth, and believe Nduom is the best man in the field, they would cast their votes for him sufficiently to enable him win. But many people will not think like you. Be realistic about that.
Since it will be a straight fight between Akufo-Addo and Mahama, it is rational to think of a vote for any other person as a "wasted vote".
Deciding who to vote for from a calculation of needs and probabilities affects only the genuine floating voters. The core members and supporters of each of the major parties will vote for the party they belong to, whether or not a stone is placed as leader. Even the floating voter who dislikes both leading candidates may decide to vote for one to prevent the other that she may like less from winning.
Ruth, you can convince people to vote for Nduom but do not try to dismiss their perceptions of what a wasted vote is. It is a rational thought process.

My brother, corruption may not be the problem but poverty and economic instability that makes the corruption worse due to no proper leadership.
There has not been a leader who truly loves Ghana. May be Kwame Nkrumah say 80%, Rawlings say 60% and I would to see Akuffo Addo if possible based on what he says and the kind of integrity he portrays. The issues is that the ILLUMINATI continue to use CIA to enslave African countries by manipulating the leaders or using the "Divide & Conquer" tactics. This is why none of the 58 countries in African cannot the developed or advanced country level. Corruption is common in most countries in various forms including many advanced nations.
The differece is that the corruption in advanced countries usually keeps the money domestically with no loss to economy while that in African countries keeps the money internationally with heavey loss to the economy such that they will declare HIPIC to go on borrowing because the money has left the country. This is that fact. The criminal CIA and the ILLUMINATIs are secretly attacking my health and mind brains for knowing and speaking the truth by using all kinds of satellite directed Energy weapons and mind control weapons such the Electroencephalogram, Voice-to-skull weapons, Remote Neural Monitoring, Electronic Harassment,Laser torture, gang stalking and derogatory slander such as "Mentally ill" or "Incest" and some foolish or criminal Ghanaian politicians or media are secretly hosting and supporting them to destroy Ghana. This is our main problem because there smart people in Ghana like you who can do something if we were united with one mission. I have a great asset worth billions and the criminal CIA are fighting me using my own Ghanaians or blacks. Sad but God will hear me.

Captain, minus the personal comments on the Writer, you have made some very good points about the electoral system. Unfortunately, being a realistic it is straight fight between the NDC & NPP as it has been since 1992.

Ruth, if you will cast your mind back you realise that every President candidate since 1992 said they will tackle corruption and yet none of them did when they have the chance. It's mere rhetoric and nothing else. Nduom sees the topic as an easy way to garner votes just like the others. But thanks for your your advise anyway. We will not vote for Nduom because it will truly be "wasted votes". And stay very far away from your home country. The country doesn't want you close either.

It is as an uninformed as it is full of dishonesty in coning the people. We can see through your Ndoum propaganda but let me tell you I will not vote for a leader who has been in bed with all the political parties just because of his unbridled ambition.
Ask him why he left the cpp after hobnobbing with the npp and still doing so.

What people would not say when running for office! Running a Ponzi scheme is the worst form of corruption and N'doum is neck deep into it.

I am not too surprised because you don't live here in Ghana. For your information, Nduom is an unpatriotic Ghanaian who thinks being a successful businessman means you will be a successful president. This is a man who came to Ghana during the Rawlings era when the country was facing difficulties. This man insisted that he was an expatriate, and that he should be paid in dollars. He would not sacrifice a little at a time when Ghana and Ghanaians were going through difficulties. This man is a selfish and greedy person to the core, and fortunately Ghanaians are aware of this. The man can never get anything near 1% of any elections in Ghana. If you know your country and current developments very well, you will then know that a vote for Nduom will be the biggest WASTED vote. In spite of all the difficulties around the world and the negatives you are always bombarded with for political expediency, Ghana is making tremendous progress. Please come home and see how far we have developed our infrastructure within the last 4 years. It might not be enough but it is unprecedented. You will perhaps appreciate it all when you land at the Kotoka International Airport. Major of Ghanaians who are here sacrificing to build the country are quite discerning, and with not be swayed by sermons from disappointed and selfish group of people who think they have been ordained to rule over us. God is watching us, and to Him do we put our fate. Cheers!!!!!

My dear, i have read and understood your narrative! however, the problems of Africa seem to be one and perpetually transcend. i am a Ugandan living in Uganda catching a whiff of rancorous political horrendous greed on a daily basis that folds and grows like weed on dung heap. African governance institutions need independence from state that is when democracy in Africa will burgeon and flourish. otherwise as youth, we really have wherewithal and gutsy to solve African problems at hand currently.

Great reasoning and a great article however Ruth the world is not a rational place at wall. People for fro various reasons, some by heritage as your friend indicated, some by party, some by weather the person is handsome or beautiful, some by the fact that if their party is in power it will be their way out of poverty, some by the fact that somebody gave them 50cedis, some along tribal lines etc etc. All these people have made what they think is their rational decision. Such is what democracy is all about and Ghanaians have opted for as a form of government. You may disagree with a lot of people and prefer a certain candidate which is your prerogative. Remember that these are also very present in the western world too. I have lived in the Scandinavian countries before and politics can also be dirty although milder than in Ghana. Great reading though.
