  Congratulations on a well written and long over-due subject. The sad truth of the matter though is that those men eventually jailed are just the tip of the ice-berg, where this issue in Ghana is concerned.
  Have a sensitive qualitative grounded theory assessment on the target female population, and get to hear the appalling stories of the young girls roaming around with goods ie, vegetables, roasted groundnuts, plastic goods etc, and the young kayayi girls around lorry parks and young female pupils/students. One can then really appreciate the sickly and beastly side of a good number of Ghanaian males. Again kudos for bringing up this issue.

  Having watched JoyNews relay on ABN yesternight and reeling with rage at the sight of the tiny girl who was raped, hurt and unable to walk by the 19 yr old relation, and the gross claim that, for a meagre 13000 cedis she was being denied operation to save her from her painful ordeal and donations being invited instead of the State shouldering the expenses, I'd say this article is a timely one. However, I am disappointed at the lenient tone it took about this most brutal and gross malady afflicting some Ghanaian men. Forcibly raping under age girls or cajoling or luring them into sex, through grooming, for instance, is not love gone astray! It is lust gone amok and it must be treated as such!
  
  I have already cooked up an article in my mind to highlight the uncivilised situation in the country in appropriate tones.

  This is a very important topic that the author treats in a short piece that many should read.
  
  Unfortunately, the writer was trying to over-reach himself literary excellence instead of presenting hard facts and figures since he is in a position to do so as someone with inside knowledge. At first I thought he was talking of defilement within the prison population but it seems he is talking of the problem generally. Both angles are good since they can reinforce each other. If people know the numbers of people serving prison sentences for defiling minors, it will act as a scare. Then we may need clarity about our own laws on the issue.
  
  But did Chinua Achebe say "[a] patient penis will certainly eat the bearded meat"? I thought he said something to the effect that unless the penis died young, it will surely eat bearded meat.

  I hope the focus on young girls and men does not take away from the focus on an equally important sexual predator problem in African communities: the prevalence of female sexual predators, who like males of this sort, perpetuate the menace of psychological difficulty among youths in black communities ALL OVER THE WORLD.
  
  As a preacher, I cannot divulge much about personal testimonies of people. Nonetheless, I can testify of young men who were raped by OLDER women in black communities of North America AND AFRICA.
  
  My experience hearing the stories of fatherless young men has led me to see that this occurrence is highly prevalent and occurs frequently within continental African communities.
  
  Is there any research on this? I would like to read more and see whether my experience validates what I already know are the underlying factors causing this: women and men who do not teach righteous sexual beliefs to their children.

I am a black African male and can tell you that much as what you raise in particular in your contribution, granted a problem, is far less an issue compared to what adult males do to young/underage girls. Your piece smacks the narrative of a black mysogynistic male.
