  The singular form of the verb "leads" refers to "the rest of the world" as a singular noun (collective). "...the West and some parts of Asia" were put in parenthesis. Kwarteng is grammatically correct.

  The editor has published the wrong article. This was Part 1 of a two-part series.
  
  I sent the editor Part 2 and yet for reasons known to him and him alone, he chose to publish Part 1 under Part 2 instead.
