To be concise, bigotry comes in various forms and the seeming umbrella definition that the author gave does not capture it all.

Besides, in curing any disease, its symptomatic manifestations first might need to be controlled even as the root cause is being vigorously pursued for uprooting.

The notion projected by the author that there is no need for constricting the avenues of disseminating the effect of bigotry, and that the measures taken by Nkrumah in that regard, as enumerated by the author were needless, exposes the shallowness of the author himself in his knowledge of what bigotry really is and what its possible causes are.

If the author does not think the solutions Nkrumah and others applied to curb bigotry in their respective Nations were not appropriate, why did he not tell us what he thinks could be better solutions? The author seems to be content with just leaving things as they were, and not doing anything about any perceived bigotry or the ethnocentrism that he pegs against the former behavior.

Furthermore, the solutions for mitigating racism or ethnocentrism may well be applicable in some environments to bigotry, at least, in some of its forms. Some medicines, for example, could cure more than one ailment. Some might have been originally discovered a particular sickness and later found to be effective in curing other sicknesses, as well.

The mere fact that bigotry does not manifest itself in other situations of some various interacting groups does not form any rational basis for disputing the existence, or the potential eruption, of bigotry in other places between other different groups. And one thing the author ought to learn is that different Countries adopt whatever different combinations of measures to mitigate bigotry among their folks, given their special or unique circumstances and characteristics of the relationships existing within individual Countries.
Different factors might fuel bigotry in different Countries or between different sets of interacting groups.

The author could have zoned in on particular solutions that Ghana's Nkrumah applied to curb bigotry but failed. In that case, we could all contribute more effectively in discussing whether those measures really failed or not. Moreover, the author should have considered the fact that measures that would work on certain problems at some particular period may be less or no longer effective on the same problems in another period. Then, also, one has to check if the chosen measures were continued or discontinued at some point. If the measures were discontinued, or tweaked in some way that failed to take into account certain factors fueling the problem, those measures would not work well.

So, if, by the article, the author were only searching for something to discredit Nkrumah and his peers with, he has woefully shot off target.

Why waste your time Mr. Simons.? I fully understand where you are coming from and I can tell you when Ghanaians from different tribes meet abroad they often live together happily and very supportive of one another. Your premise of territorial defence, and all other forms of defence holds perfectly. I think when we travel we carry one identity and the same concept of converging for self defence applies there. A private bank in Ghana was alarmed at the presence of people from one particular tribe and decided to do something about it. I think others would have understood you better had you not brought in Nkrumah. In case you didnt know, he was a perfect man and you hurt the feeling of many if you try to find fault with anything he did.
