Unfortunately, it is very serious if people like this writer end up in Ghana universities to teach students. Their intellectual knowledge is very deficient.
The northern ghana is made up of 3 regions . Each region is made of numerous tribes.
Dr Amoako Baah and a numerous other dishonest and tribalist made similar arguments which are flawed.
For this reason, it is very difficult to use any intellectual research from many Ghanaian researchers for any national and international projects becouse their tribal bigotry claud their judgements.
How many positions are in the government and how many are occupied by the northerners?
These numbers of Akan percentage in ghana is flawed and without bases.
Recalling history. Go back to the era of Abrefa-Busia, Rawlings and Kufour and compare appointments. No Ghanaian leader has done anything better than this current government has done and continue doing, even though things could have been better.

Tell us the percentage of Akans in Ghana, if you doubt what the article has indicated, and juxterpose it with the number of Akans who are presently occupying ministerial and other positions in the country. Each region is to be represented in the ministerial positions, but ask yourself the number of Akans, especially, Asantes (who occupy the most densely populated region in Ghana) that have been appointed by Mahama. All you will say is that Ashanti Region is the strong-hold for the NPP. If that is your thought, then how do you comment on the Kufour's administration which led to the appointment of several Northerners and Voltarians? Mahama has been bias in his appointments. In this note, I will suggest to all the Asantes who are NDC members to advise themselves. A WORD TO THE WISE IS ENOUGH

Concern citizen. What is intellectually deficient about advising the president to integrate the nation. What is the population density of the three northern region? This a well-written educative peace.

I feel sad that this article is based on extreme ignorance, if not, then mischief. Please could the writer sit back and outline all the key institutions and names and regions of their heads and then strike out whether it is people from the south that are dominating or those from the north? I say this because he is basing his view on the north and south divide and there are many like him who don't actually understand and know their own country Ghana.
Please be reminded that appointments to key positions based on the north and south divide is far far in favour of the south.People make the mistake of always isolating one region from the south and combining the three northern regions as one region and then go ahead to base their comparison on that. This is very wrong.
Ghana has been divided into ten regions and each region has a different and autonomous right to appointments and so one doesn't have to combine the three northern regions as one and then proceed to combine all appointments from the three northern regions, treat them as one and make the comparison with one single region from the south. This approach is wrong and unfair but yet and surprisingly, highly placed intellectuals do that every day. Indeed, it is a shame.
Let me educate the writer a bit on just northern region alone. This region has many ethnic groups, some of which include the Dagombas, Gonjas, Mamprusis, Nanumbas, Kunkombas, Bimobas,Baasaris, etc. The President is a Gonja but I want to assure you that he has appointed very few Gonjas to political positions than Dagombas. I am a Dagomba myself but I have to be objective.
Hatred and ethnocentrism are blinding people's thinking and sometimes I just feel something else to hear or read from some people spewing so much wilful ignorance and mischief.
Judging from the content of the write-up, the writer is supposed to be somebody who should be critically minded and so could have reasoned better. I am therefore tempted to think that it is a political exercise full of wishful ignorance.

The Ethiopian example is not applicable to Ghana. The Tigre people dominate the regime there because they formed the bulk of the movement that seized power and they are determined to ward off the dominant tribe. That is not the situation in Ghana. Mahama can lose the next elections or cannot stand again for a third term. It's unlikely a northerner will take over after him and whoever does can fill his govt with his own tribesmen. It is not as if Akans are forever locked out of the power structure in Ghana. As long as we have free and fair elections, this should not happen.
Whiles it is good to have a regional/tribal balance in appointments, the 1992 constitution did not stipulate that the president should calculate the percentages of tribes in Ghana and reflect the exact percentages in the composition of the government or top national appointments.
It is good to have a rough balance. Everybody knows that. You don't have to quote any scholars to prove that. Haba!

The writer, my school mate, fell short of giving examples of other appointments which are non northerners. To cite examples as the governor of the BOG, the head of the insurance commission without equally recognising the EC chairperson, Charlotte Osei, the government statistician and many others takes an important element from the writeup. The writer made reference to the provisions in the 1992 constitution which guides the president on the kinds of appointments he makes. In our fourth republican dispensation, our Presidents have abided by the constitutional provisions to a greater extent and the current president is no exception. It's good to advice the president to be mindful of the dangers of ethnic appointments but the Ethiopian example has no semblance to the current Ghanaian situational

If they have failled, it is better we remove the President and give someone else to constitute a new team. Let us judge by their performance rather than their ethnic backgroung.
