I have not read how the Nigerian journalist working for the Guardian Newspaper was able to arrange for the interview with Rawlings, for instance whether Rawlings was given likely questions to be asked at the interview, but the whole saga reeks of a set up and entrapment by intelligence officials to get at Rawlings! The timing to me cannot be coincidence! All of us know of Rawling's weakness of hugging the limelight and they cleverly led him to reveal things which he had hidden all these years!
What moral right has the Rawlingses to condemn the current government? More things will follow from the revelations given by Rawlings! He and the wife are finished political material!
I think this perhaps was a collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria intelligence officials. I expect that sooner than later Nigeria's Buhari will ask Rawlongs to refund the money!

The reality is that no one will investigate Rawlings over this matter. The present NDC government will not do it. If Akufo Addo wins in November he also will not investigate. I personally can see clearly the reason behind Rawlings's sudden support for Nana, going as far as extolling him as incorruptible. He and his wife are supporting NPP to win the elections knowing very well that in the event that they win, they will not be touched.
