  If the source of the power of the supreme court is the constitution of the republic of ghana but a Sophia wants us to believe she is higher and mightier than that which empowers her then this result is expected.

  This article is design to throw dust in our eyes to look like the president was wrong of pardoning the monte3, but what it doesn't state is that the constitution allows the president to pardon prisoners.

  Mr. big brain, literate, fully baked something something!! I fully agree with you when you talk about "It is a constitution issue - separation of powers and respect for that dispensation". Now this is my humble view: 1.The President allowed the case to travel it's full course at the Supreme Court without interfering in any way. 2.Judgement was handed out and the culprits were convicted. 3. They served a quarter of their jail term. 4.The President did not overturn their sentence. 5.The President also exercised his rights as guaranteed by the same constitution you quoted by granting them pardon. The constitution has been duly respected. The constitution still remains sacrosanct. Sir, you may be bitter for your own reasons, but your rantings hold no water.

And throw in the so called sympathy vote because of the late Atta Mills.

  This single act by JD Mahama has confirmed what I have always believed... that the typical Ghanaian, from President through the perfidious Council of State, down to the vendor/Kayayie on the street has no conscience. Education did not do much for the average Ghanaian.
  
  Because the end of education is to see men and women made whole, both in competence and in conscience but the typical Ghanaian sadly has none of either competence or conscience. Not even common sense can be credited to the Ghanaian.
  
  The so called Prof. Kwaku Asare who first mooted the idea of Presidential pardon, and applauding the mentally deficient Mahama for acceding to his wishes must bow his head in shame. Kwaku Asare is a disgrace to academia; a veritable cognitive dissonance who is out of his depth.
  
  This country needs absolute brains to build the country, not charlatans and pseudo intellectuals parading themselves as opinion leaders. Yes, the SC erred in sentencing the Montie 3 criminals, but no intellectual of sound mind will assail our democratic institutions.
  
  Kwaku Asare has lost all credibility, and if he thinks he is defending the Constitution by asking the reckless Mahama to invoke article 72, then he has inadvertently sanctioned hooliganism in that godforsaken country.

  It is amazing how criminals and individuals with duplicitous character have hijacked the seat of government in this country. While in many civilized countries, leaders are expected to make tough decisions in defense of institutions they govern, the primitive and backward Ghanaian leaders are rather whittling away the power of such institutions.
  
  The Justice system in the US many times makes the error and send the wrong person to prison all the time. But hardly would any intelligent person in the US, let alone the governor of the state commute their sentences or assail the justice system. There are countless of wrong people serving prison terms across America who were sentenced through due process of law. These prisoners did not commit any crime, but only for mistaken identity and yet they languish in prison for many years. The civilized Americans in most of these cases are aware there is injustice by the justice system and would allow the system to sort itself out. But the primitive and backward Ghanaian bereft of any modicum of common sense, including pseudo intellectuals would like to lambaste our democratic institutions and call upon the duplicitous JD Mahama to commute the sentences of true criminals, the Montie 3.
  
  The intelligent and the most enlightened members of society such as lawyer Maurice Ampaw and others can see through the actions of the dumb head Mahama and the repercussions on our democratic institutions.

Ghana has really gone to the dogs and I am afraid the country will continue to retrogress. It seems party affiliation is more important than law and order. What a shame.

  Next time I hope the judges wouldn't fly to Manhyia before a verdict. Her Lordship, and the other judges should Just protect themselves, and stay away from NDC issues.
