Just read some of the comments here and assess if this article has informed some people.

Now, the TVT, as I pointed out in my article, even became a British protected area after the Sagrenti War, with the Asantes and their allies signing a peace accord never to mount any slave raid into that area or claim any part of it again. The present Asantehene is in breach of that Treaty by accepting the Woraworahene into his court.

The area was only given to the Germans in 1884 after the Berlin Conference by the British, cos, despite helping to liberate the area from the Akwamu/Asante and allies yoke, there was a high resentment of the British, being the main purchaser of the captives, ivory, etc., from that area which stretched from Krepi, i.e., from Peki/Awudome/Buem/Ho to Hohoe through Dagbon(Yendi) to much of the present Upper East.

The area was taken back from the Germans in 1915 as part of the booty of WWII, a mere 15 years after the Asante Kingdom became a Protectorate and 17 years after the Northern Territories. Since the area was a major producer of cocoa and other export crops, not to mention local food crops, it contributed in no small measure to the development of the Gold Coast but was neglected by the British in terms of amenities, as is the case after independence too. This is contributing in no small measure to the persistence of the secessionist movt, whereas the people there were at first happy to come under British rule, instead of French rule. What they experienced under German paternalism and saw happening under French rule in Dahomey was enough to persuade them to return to British rule. So those clamouring for secession got their history wrong.

As you can see here, we are in big trouble! This should be basic history known to primary school leavers but we have PhDs who don't even have a clue. I blame our educational system squarely for these lapses and steps must be taken to address them at the gestation stage.

Well, well, you guys who read history have done us poorly. I read the political history of Ghana in my Pol. Science course at Legon. Then, of course, Ancient History, meaning Greek and Roman History. In Europe, it was Economic and Social History of Europe as part of my course. The rest is self-taught from reading the loads of books in the house and oral sources.

I was at Legon in the late '70s when those gents were lords of the History Dept. Anyway, my history of the Gold Coast started from home, when as a mere kid, the elders used to allow me to sit through interviews with researchers, blacks and whites. Then, I heard them afterwards debating questions they told the researchers they didn't know anything about and then be told sternly that one wasn't said. Just in 1993 when I was in Ghana on field work, I heard something which would have marred our lives as kids had I known as a child. Now, it is up to me to pass it on, since not all in the family were privileged to listen in and know the things I knew.

Anyway, K'dua is now a very big place but if you asked about my cousin Kofi Kwawukume who teaches a science subject in one of the schools there, you can get him. My regards to him. He's the grandson of the Torgbui Sri II you mentioned.

Professor Amenumey, who is the History don in the Univ. of Cape Coast, has written a lot on these issues and is an authority on the subject but I wonder if his students leave Cape Vars knowing these things in the article.

The Gold Coast proper... That part of the Volta Region did not take part in the referendum of 1956, with the question if they want to be part of the Gold Coast or a state of their own. The majority of the people decided to be part of the Gold Coast. It is also on record that not all Ewhes came from Agbome, that some Ewhes were already settled in the Volta and Greater Accra Regions before other Ewhes and Gha-Adangbes came from Togo. It is also a fact that not all Ghas, Dangbe and Krobos left their former settlement to settle in Ghana, thus they still have settlements in the Volta Region and Togo.

Ewes are inward looking, tribalistic, dominating, murders, thieves, prone to juju practice, etc. Then A shanties want to dominate over everyone in Ghana, are disrespectful of Ewes and other minorities and hate all non Akan.
We are all Ghanians and should coexist peacefully rather than these vitrol of perceptions as it will lead us nowhere. we were thrown together by the colonist without regard to linguistic borders but thanks to tribal intermarriage and intra- migration the "Ghana project " will be a reality ; we all will have cousins in each linguistic group.
To all Akan I say Ewes are not evil . They are going through a mental process where they see the Akan language domination spurring insecurity like the French and English.To Ewes the dominance of Akan language should be viewed as an opportunity for peaceful coexistence. While preserving your linguistic identity. All must understand that in our democracy no one tribe can achieve dominance over the rest and expect peaceful coexistence. And if you are observant even on TV, you will find that even in a typical village in the Volta Region, an old lady expresses herself in English and it marvels me. But it is difficult to find a different tribe expressing himself or herself in English. Haven't you been watching TV?
