I love your piece. But Francis, how can you forget to mention Atakora Manu among his contemporaries? Did you forget his "Odefe defe", "Abese no" just to mention a few of his smooth 'Nasadwaase' music/songs.

Kwaku Atta-krufi, it's not like Francis Kwarteng just forgot to mention Atakora Manu but he rather forgot to cut and paste that part of Atakora Manu from You Tube.

The fact is that there are just too many good musicians and songs to include in this five-part series.
You and I know that for a fact. Of course, I am familiar with Attakora Manu and his rich repertoire.
You can also see that I did not mention Daddy Lumba, the Sibo Brothers, Nana Acheampong, Oheneba Kissi and just so many others.
If you observed the writing style closely, you would have noticed almost immediately that I used ellipsis (...) as indication that the list is long or endless. Or that I could not mention every name and song.
Thanks for reading and enjoying the article. This satisfies the primary objective of the piece.
Have a great weekend.

Nyebro Yaw,
You elevated my mind this Sunday. It has been many years since I read anything with the word deontological in it, i.e., since I gave up reading my philosophy books in the '90s. There was hardly anyone to have a discourse with on Okyeame in those years. Still is. Who cares about Greek muses or what the Greeks allegedly thought, did, or is acclaimed to be Hellenistic in the civilising process?
In spite of having no clue as to who Samuel Owusu is and his music (given up following the Ghanaian music scene years ago too), I understood 100% the import of what you are writing about. And this piece, Nyebro, is an epistle to high culture which the likes of the lumpen proletariat of our urban slums, or the Brotherhood of Nitwits that haunt Ghanaweb, reminiscent of the rancorous patrons of the fumity woman in the Mayor of Castelbridge, that adore Shatta Wale might not appreciate at all.
Now, in the civilising process, there was, I have read, and we must also have, the bohemian who belong to the sub-culture, not only the avant garde of the dominant, main culture with their snobbish ways. The bohemian also break boundaries and extend the scope of what is permissible and acceptable. They may amuse or outrage us with the antics but we have to respond to their outrages with better alternatives, as it is often a mockery of the popular culture that give rise to bohemian counter-culture. It is thus interesting to read of some things which were once sneezed upon by the upon class becoming dominant cultural heritages of the civilised nations. We are currently watching a film on ABN Tv here about life in Brazil at the turn of the C20th and from tomorrow, we'd be watching how the first Samba dance was performed in a high class theatre, to the outrage of the artiste's father and high Brazilian society, whereas the lady had already made Samba popular in France.
The French Kan kan in which the ladies bare their butts to the audience was once a performance in only slimy, alley cafes for the lumpen proletariat. Now, you have to fork out a fortune to watch a performance. Of course, it'd outrage the close-minded clergy, their followers and the likes of that albino lawyer when performed in Accra. Those who don't know what kan kan is can ff this link for a preview.
Of course, some practices of the analgesic sub-culture must not only be derided but must be purged, as they can be harmful and injurious to not only society but even the practitioners, e.g, rave parties, gangs and drug use. They promote violence., etc.
