Nobody has said Martey should not criticize government or any one else.

People are criticizing Martey because he has made unsubstantiated allegations of a serious nature. He cannot just make those allegations and then just leave them in the air. He has to see it to the end. This means he has to be fully critic, not criticize halfway. This has nothing to do with Max Weber, or Soyinka or Voltaire or any US politician. This particular criticism has nothing to do with the role of the church in national life.

Martey has the right to criticize the misdeeds of individuals in society and others also have the right to be critical of the deeds and misdeeds of Martey who is also just another Ghanaian - not better nor worse.

If because of ignorance, you don't see Martey's action as the role of a church in national development that is OK. What you knew already does not constitute absolute truth. You studied debate writings in your high school days. Depending on the motion you can support with facts and quotes. The above article is about the needless attacks on a learned man of God. A product of the reputable Columbia University by some uncultured youth in the government. There is nothing wrong with the writer quoting to support his point. The writer is a PhD level learner and you mean you have been writing his papers for him. You live in your own knowledge island, which may not help you. Stop your senseless conservatism and learn something new.

You also did not see that my reference to his desperate need to show he is well read was not only stated as a rhetorical question but clearly and purposely put in brackets to give it a status that is removed from the rest of the argument. Did you see that, Okai?

Don't say PhD level student, don't say Columbia university. These are not germane to the crux of the argument here.

But, at least, you're trying to remove the insults from your argument. It's the insults that make me see you as a young man in Germany...

If you are a good reader, you would have known that the writer clearly stated his purpose of writing: "needless attacks on Professor Martey." He then projected martey as a symbol of the church. He delved into a historical antecedence of the behavior of the church. He said for example, the church in history has been influenced by the writings of St. Augustine not only to focus on ascetic legalism as most attackers of Rev. Martey want him to be. This is very philosophical, historical and intellectual piece of article. You cannot write history without making reference to authenticate a given position. You were highly judgmental when you started by saying he desperately want to show that he has read a lot. Maybe, you want to show out of desperation that you are not a less verbose individual. Your attitude goes on in Ghanaian Universities, if a lecturer doesn't know it means a student is wrong. I love the article. I maintain your comment was irresponsible. Rev Martey is alleged to have taken bribes himself, he is alleged to be a serial liar, he is alleged to have supervised the running of a company for three years without registering it and paying taxes, he lied about being awarded professor emeritus until Trinity college denied they have awarded him such a status and many more. You have not mentioned any of these. You have presented him as an angel, which he is not. Your article is simply partisan propaganda and will not help your academic pursuits.

I want this writer to understand that despite prof Martey being the former head of the church, he is not the Presby church.

What is the main principles in christianity, is it not to be truthful in all situations?

Is Prof Martey being truthful to Christ and to his people Ghanaians?

Why cann't he prof Martey come out to name those who tried to bribe him?

Truthful people are not afraid to speak the truth no matter what the outcome will be.

Prof Martey will do himself, Christ, Christians and Ghanaians a great favour, if he martey will come out with the truth by naming the party and those who tried to bribe him.

Untill he prof Martey comes out openly and truthfull every sensible person in the world will call him a liar.
