  1. Claim: The NDC has over the 8 years it has ruled Ghana since 2009 amassed and spent 12 times the nominal resources that the NPP had over its 8 years of rule.
  Comment: By using the ‘nominal’ measure of the resources, Dr. Bawumia cleverly exaggerates the actual difference between the amounts obtained by the NDC compared to the NPP. If we factor in inflation (in both dollar and cedi terms), exchange rate depreciation and other ‘time value of money considerations’ such as interest differentials, the difference between the GHS 20 billion Dr. Bawumia claims the NPP secured and the GHS 248 billion he allocates to the NDC has to be adjusted. The complexity of the calculation stem from the fact that one has to compound the computation cumulatively from 2000 to 2016 Q3 in order to obtain the real multiple, which is about 3 times in 2007 historical US dollar terms. This is still very significant (and the point that commodity prices have been more favourable to the NDC than to the NPP is also largely fair), but obviously the multiples are not exactly what Dr. Bawumia insist they are SOURCE IMANI GHANA

  This is pure and absolute economic stupidity at the highest level. What at? Did you say you are an Economist? No wonder pm like Bawumia can hoodwink you with politically tainted economic theories and cooked up variables. Any economist who picks and chooses figures for convenience like Bawumia does, is dangerous to up and coming economic students. By the way, where did you get the 2008 debt to GDP ratio of 33.6% from. Are you thus telling us that Ghana's GDP as at 2008 was 28 billion dollars? This is palpable falsehood. The records will show you that the GDP then was just above 16 billion dollars. That makes a GDP to debt ratio of over 56%. The lies and dishonesty are too much. The average GDP growth over the 8 years of the NPP is just over 5% while that of the NDC over the last 7 years is about 7%. Mr Economist, simple Secondary school economics will tell you that when you make comparisons over length of time, you factor in several variables including inflation over the period, exchange rates among others. Why makes Bawumia's lecture more political and comical is that he is able to look Ghanaians in the face and say that Mahama has done nothing. Evidence of massive, unprecedented infrastructural development in the roads sector, water, education and health are too glaring even to th blind. Support for the Security Services are massive. So for someone to try to say otherwise is like telling the masses and chiefs who are applauding developments that they are fools. Well, the NPP lied it's way to power in 2000, but I can bet you that it will not happen again. The people have a sense of history, and are wide awake.
