  Comparing Ghana to OECD countries? Are you for real? At what interest rates has Ghana been borrowing from international capital markets?
  
  One of the things investors and rating agencies look at when assessing a country's ability to repay debts is the balance of trade, which is typically the largest component of the balance of (international) payments and shows whether you're earning more or less ($) from exports relative to paying for imports.
  
  Developing countries like Ghana with weak production capacities run large trade deficits with little promise of things changing in the medium term. This is why when a developing country with production/exporting capacity crosses 70% debt to GDP ratio it is considered very high risk and of HIPC status. In contrast, an industrialised power like can run even higher debt to GDP ratios and not be considered high risk due to their earning capacity. And remember that the US, which you cited, enjoys segniorage, it can pay for its international debts by domestic earnings or simply printing money in its own currency. To compare US debt levels to Ghana's is simply missing the point.
  
  But for our newfound oil, Ghana would have been placed on the HIPC list again. The problem is that we are squandering our wealth. We're not using it to accumulate productive capacity to improve our earning potential and ability to repay debts. If we were, GDP growth would be rising, not declining, and we'd not be continually borrowing to repay debts that are due. This is exactly the point Bawumia was making.

  The fact of the matter is Bawumia seem to be saying Ghana should not borrow.
  The NPP and Bawumia especially gave similar lectures to prevent the IMF from giving the loan. When that failed now he is saying that the IMF loan we got was wasted. Who is this guy at all. Is he the one to judge for the IMF?
  He never told Ghanaians of redenomination till today. So what does he want from us?
  Every country borrows, even America seiniorage/reserve currency and the poorer country in the world will borrow in one way or the other. The only difference is if you are developed you may bargain for a cheaper interest.
  The unfairness to poorer nations is not given the ability to pay but rather given the highest interests essentially sayING we have low credit. Developing nations will have to live with it.
  Bono of U2, Actors united as a nonprofit group to campaign for the world poor to ask for a better deal for poorer countries in over a decade and the result was HIPC1 & II which the NPP government benefitted from. Did not have to pay for any loans of the past.

  2. If it's down to Western unfairness how come other African countries like Rwanda and Ethipia are obtaining better interest rates? Compared to these countries, Ghana is, in fact, a darling of the West!

Why do they think after 8 years they can ride on the same policies of Kufuor as if that government did not usher in the "WAWAA" right from day one. The car boot sharing of money as the Castle revelation by Esseku, renovating a private house for the president. Topped the 8 years with the missing 77 bars of cocaine, drugs turning into kokonte powder, diplomatic passports to drug Lords by minister in charge. Redenomination, Jubille house saga, erc.The lecture is like again walking blindfolded. Actually moving one step forward and three steps backwords
