WE SAY:
We imagine this. If even J.B. Danquah said that in 1965, the same year he died in prison, that would still be just 8 years after Ghana was Ghana, after Ghana became independent.

The Prof. Frimpong Boateng I know is bigger than this story. Let me share a little with readers. It was in 1986 and I had just arrived in Munich to study. German being a difficult language and academic German the more, foreign students would have about 2-3 years in preparatory courses. I had made enough progress to read the Süddeutsche Zeitung, considered an upscale paper for intellectuals, when Kwabena Frimpong Boateng made me very proud a year or two later. Not only did the respected paper herald his achievement as an African; Germany had as as a matter of fact set a world record with the procedure. That feat would motivate me to go for it and I would graduate Magister from the prestigious LMU years later.

Some 20 or so years on, I would meet the Professor in Switzerland where he had come for a conference. The couple of Doctors in his company introduced themselves and then one said: "And that is Prof. Frimpong Boateng, CEO of Korle Bu." "Oh I know a bit about him...Decades ago at the MHH." The Medizinische Hochschule Hanover is not a High School. Hochschule is often the preferred variant for University by speakers of polished German. Anyway, the Doctors urged me to tell them the story, which is already familiar to my readers.

We spent several hours together and decided to tour neighbouring France the next day. It was a unique learning experience. As the youngest among them, I was surprised how humbly these great men, a group that included then Minister of Health, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, approached their various tasks. These were the kind Ghana needed, I thought right away.

Now, let me tell those critics to do a little reading on Dr. Angela Merkel, another scientist turned politician. She's probably the most successful post-war European leader. So.... I sincerely dont think Prof. Frimpong Boateng's surgical skills and training disqualify him as a politician; the man is an engineer first. Why? In the beautiful summer we became friends, it dawned on me straight on that he had a fondness for things that ticked like a good mechanical watch. Precision, functionality and innovation all in one blend. Interestingly, he brings all down to the beginning: Ghana, the layman, local, not bespoke or elitist although he is an elite in the proper definition of the word. The Senior Man is obsessed with engineering and reading for the first time that his childhood dream was to become an Engineer, I am not surprised a wee bit. After all, fixing faulty hearts is serious engineering and very mechanical.

Let's look at what he does as a private person and the engineering passion is overriding: bio-fuel & CNC, the latter demanding inventive DNA sequencing in one's mind, body & soul. With our New Government enabling Ghana's home-grown industrial acceleration, Prof. Frimpong Boateng is the one to watch. I'll put my last pesewa on his name.

I don't think if he found it as a private citizen the government will have anything to do with it. The fact that you helped the government established an institution doesn't guarantee that the government allows you to perpetuate your personal goals. He's no God.

Prof. Frimpong returned to Ghana and joined university of Ghana in 2000". If actually Prof Frimpong sets up NCTC was it not under the NDC regime? Was the NDC government not aware that he never belonged to their party and yet allowed him to take his due glory? If they NDC could work with him at that time it means they can still work with him now. Either the writer and Frimpong are just trying to take advantage of politics or he still cannot come to terms with his abysmal performance since he attempted three times to be MPP flag bearer. That notwithstanding, it is always adviceable that those seeking political offices should resign their post to avoid some of these issues.
