Ghana cannot agree on the Paris ambition on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to minimise carbon emissions, and then continue with fossil fuels such as Coal.
The problem with Ghana and in many countries, according to Rachel Kyte, Special Represempntative of the UN Secretary-General and CEO at Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All), are the planning mindset of Government ?hich is still biased on large projects, and institutions that manage electricity system are focused on national grid connectivity.
One solution that I can suggest to the Government, which has dual task of improving economic and social conditions of Ghanaians while also creating clean energy systems, is to change the government mindset from energy system based on large power plant stations connected to the national grid to regional power pools and thier finance, with private capital and multi national companies with the necessary support and tax incentives for venturing into renewal energies such as wind and solar.

Even the US use coal fired plants and literature on the web made it clear that there is a new technology in coal firing which makes coal fired plants safe to operate. I remembered that whiles studying in Europe in the late 70s and early 80s when we travel by train we use coal to hit water to prepare tea. It is a fact that the majority of the people who are against our application of coal in generating power have not seen coal before nor used it to cook food before.

I totally agree with Raphael, and Kwame, countries are moving away from coal and using energy sources that are green.

My question to you is this - will Ghanaians be ready to pay for power generated from renewable energy? There is so much hue and cry presently about cost of power being beyond the means of ordinary people. You have not told us what it would cost to set up these renewable energy plants and do a comparative analysis with the cost of the coal plant.
Right on!
