This would have been a very well researched article minus the extra focus on Ashanti rebellion. Writer, the rebellion against Nkrumah started from Accra where many prominent Ga chiefs were imprisoned, it later spread to Central Region where many Fantes were equally imprisoned. So you see Ashantis weren't the only ones that group to have rebelled against Nkrumah, the difference was the mode of operation.

The Gas, Fantes amd other tribes opposed Nkrumah and his policies, Ashantis on the other hand wrapped the entire rebellion with a tribal undertone and that's why the Ashanti rebellion never won the sympathy of the rest of the country.

Nkrumah's undoing was that he put too much stock in cocoa, invested so much into it and increased output to a stupendous level compared to other producing countries but got peanuts in return, thanks to the vaunted "low price elasticity of demand".

The stats are there to prove this fact. Luckily, here is a scholarly article analysing Ghan's output of cocoa in comparison to all the major prouding countries from 1945 to 1967 for all who are intelligent and want to know the truth to read.

of cocoa beans-Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil, the Ivory Coast, and Cameroun-and for 'other producing countries' over the period 1945/46

The U.S. health system could not handle all he casualties and there was also no capitalist American state that could rescue the U.S. from the huge burden of caring for its wounded.
U.S. has imposed economic and other sanctions against Cuba which is in position to help with some of he casualties. The burnt and traumatized U.S. citizens found a way out, which was going to Cuba, I mean socialist Cuba under the guise of tourists. Cuban health tourism was given a boost.
It is also a fact that capitalist and imperialist U.S. borrow a lot from China and if it had not been for China the U.S. would have more wars around the world with the ruse of democracy, whiles the actual aim of the war is to steal the natural and human resources of countries around the world.
Had it not been that socialist China is around to financially rescue the U.S. from financial problems 5,00,000 U.S. citizens would have been used in various economic wars that would have been waged by her.
It is a fact that the projects that were taken by Kwame Nkrumah have been the economic spinal bone of this country. We are however lucky to have an Nkrumaist President John Maham who is currently adding muscle to the bones of the economic bones that Nkrumah left behind. We are sure that when Mahama wins his second term he will add fresh to the bones and muscles to empower the economy of Ghana to locomotion.

Nkrumah was long dead then. The cocoa industry is not dead but the rich cocoa farmers kids are not continuing where their fathers left off and most are either abroad or in Accra in big offices.

Nkrumah built those infrastructure for Ghanaians like you to obtain a job and manage them for posterity. It is Ghanaians that had failed not Nkrumah who thought it wise to put up that grand idea of Industrialization.

Did you know Nkrumah plan for nuclear power would have Ghana supplying power to west Africa? Imagine what a 15 gigawatt power plant will do to our national coffers since 1965:

Look it's people like you who can't see that you are supposed to replace Nkrumah and build on what he started that is our problem. I see Ghanaian education continue to dwindle after Nkrumah. Many of the Ghanaians trained by Nkrumah are in other societies contributing because they cannot fit into the chaotic society that people who overthrew Nkrumah had created.

A thinker should be able to see things that the average person cannot see that the gains in education, industry, governance throughout Ghana, institutions etc Vrs the opportunity cost of extra cash in cocoa farmers hands.

If the latter outweighs the former, the we could agree. Else you are not talking sense

This is completely false and a lie.

In fact apart from trhe brutal reign of monarchy and church in russia preceding the revolution Russia may have been exporting grains but their people were starving;why did they revolt if their bellys were full???? the revolution was caused by many factors including a brutal church/monarchy regime, famine etc. following the revolution there was a counter revolution andanother revolution and then a civil war where USA, Britain, France etc joined the royalists and church to dethrone the communists, in this climate i doubt even Britain/USA could continue producing food for its people

I am really sorry that you spent time to put this article together. However, your history will tell you that America, UK, etc went through that draconian era of socialism before capitalism. For example, it may interest you to read about how the Canons acquired their properties. I believe you should stay in London and rot as you have nothing to offer Ghanaians.

I have enjoyed reading this article immensely as I think it contains a great deal of useful ideas and truthful statements but I do not think or feel Nkrumah destroyed the Hen that laid the golden eggs, that was destroyed by the people of Ghana. Unfortunately Ghana was not mature or developed enough to recognise need to work together in harmony for the development of the country. We become greedy and extremely selfish and we still are.We have now surrounded ourselves with RELIGIOUS activities which we don't even understand thinking GOD will do everything for us. Its time we woke up and start thinking seriously about the Country and its people and hoping that God will drop down from his watch tower and do it for us. Just observe the accumulation of all the churches and Pastors. Thy form the richest group in Ghana. WE NEED TO WAKE UP AND START THINKING.

Has any government after Nkrumah been able to achieve even a quarter of what he achieved? You accuse him of pursuing scientific socialism and destroying the hen that laid golden eggs.

Nkrumah set up state industries, as the majority of our people did not have the capital or know-how to set up businesses and industries. It was a mixed economy as private enterprise existed side by side with state enterprise. The state enterprises provided work for our people.

We had to start from somewhere on the path of development. The mistake we made was to abandon the state enterprises after Nkrumah - we should have learnt to manage them more efficiently and make them more profitable.

All countries have state enterprises - they just manage them better than we have managed ours.

Nkrumah's legacy is there for all to see. Akosombo dam as served us so well for a generation. The universities, polytechnics and GET schools are the bedrock of our educational system. Tema harbour, industrial area, motorway and town are still serving us very well. One could go on and on.

Revisionists like you are intellectually bankrupt. Stop trying to distort the facts!
