The EC chair did well by announcing the results when it was ready. It had 72 hours to do its duty and it delivered in good time. Most of the news media had called it for Akufo so the result was really not in doubt. It wasn't as if the EC chair put Ghanaians on tentercles. They had to be sure of certain things before they make the final pronouncement. I think they did right.
The analyses of the results will take time to be properly made. One thing is certain: Ghanaians wanted change. Whether they want Akufo-Addo is a completely different matter. Remember they rejected him twice. They wanted change but there was only one alternative which was Akufo. They had to take that since the other alternatives were so far down the line.
I think it is more a rejection of Mahama than a wish for Akufo-Addo. It's just the reverse of the 2012 situation.
The true victory is really not that of Akufo but the readiness of Ghanaians to kick out a government as and when they like. This is something that they should do more often - even for governments that are doing well.
The saddest aspect of the elections is the patently ethnocentric nature of vote. This is very unfortunate. It is a clear Akans versus the rest case and it's not good for the nation.
As a true Ghanaian, I must wish Akufo-Addo the best in steering the affairs of the country. Ghanaians are now very discerning and don't think that anybody has a right to two terms. They'll kick you off even after one term.

I like what you stated in your last paragraph. Yes, we all wish Nana success in leading our country. However, Ghanaians' understanding of the democratic process has grown tremendously in the last two decades, so they no longer accept empty promises from politicians. It is either our politicians perform or they get booted out. This approach ensures that politicians will not assume that the presidency is some sort of birthright.

I could be seeping Kallypo with Nana and his kinsmen if I want while these creeps are struggling on with their petty, pathetic lives and bad-mouthing Ewes.
Anyway, we see how this pan out too. After all, Efo Solo was attending meetings with Mahama long before he even became a Minister but when he became President, the clown became unreachable to listen to good advice. Kabireta in Ewe measn "got a wound in the head".
You have just displayed that wound in your head again by making that malicious claim against the EC Charlotte Osei. For someone who has got a PhD in Criminology, you didn;t see anything wrong with the NPP's attempt to stampade the EC to announce the results prematurely when voting was even going to take place the next day at some places, not to mention when it was not in receipt of all the results, talk of collating it!
I was watching MyJoy and it had Mahama in the lead when the NPP held that odious press conference and declared themselves winners, based on what they claimed they got from their own collation based on what their pollsters sent them! On the basis of that lawless action, they started calling on Mahama to concede! I was stunned! Have the parties not met and agreed on a modalities, with 72 hrs agreed as the time needed by the EC to announce results?
And you know you a doctorate is here to tell th eworld public that it was a god that elected Nana and th eEC was delaying announcing thge results until Mahama conceded? You're a bloody fool.
So for all your aping and ass licking, see how the tribal bigots you identofy with are insulting we Ewes again? What have you got to say about that?
Which part of the VR do you come from? I have prepared to take on the tribal bigots and I have disclosed the true reasons why the EP mission moved to Keta from Peki, something you attributed to "political situation" in your exchanges with "Akadu Mensema", another fraud. You couldn't even bring yourself to write that Asante and Akwamu slave raiders assisted by some Ewe states and others had launched another slave raidng and plundering war on the people of Weme! Tweah! Let's us deal with the issues. We Anlos have come to terms with that sordid history a long time agao. That's why Prof. Amenumey hasn't any qualms writing a book to detail what happened.
Btw, I am one person, as a true ardent pro-Nkrumahist, who is so happy that the clueless and lawless Mahama regime has been cut short by the good people of Ghana (not any damn god), including many Ewes who refused to go out and vote for him, but I am equally sad that the NPP has won the election. For me, it is a Pyrrchic Victory, so I shall jubilate and mourn too.

Andy,
Pryce and myself have had our disagreements in the past. I have disagreed with you on some occasions, too. The difference between Pryce and you is that Pryce is an ardent antagonist of ethnocentrism of all stripes, whether emanating from Akans (Ashantis) or Ewes--whereas you foam at the mouth only at the spectacle of ethnocentrism emanating from Ashantis. Pryce doesn't soil himself with the scatology of ethnocentrism when fiercely engaging others on the subject; I cant say that for you. Look, we all have our beliefs. Educationally, I come from a science background but acknowledge too that there are many things that fall outside the purview of scientism. I don't fault Pryce for attributing Nana's success at the polls to God's intervention. If you believe that the voters did, so be it. Pryce was not suggesting that God came to earth to elect Nana, a gross mischaracterization of his point (I am not saying this is your interpretation); but rather like a father who achieves an end through his children: God, whose children we all are from the purview of theological abstraction, may have achieved an end through the voters. That is Pryce's point. Don't insult others because they don't believe what you believe. Stay happy and mournful.

Thank you, my brother. You explained my position so well, there is no need to add to it.
Atheists and agnostics tend to attack any statement that mentions God (and they love to, sadly, write "god" instead of "God"), and my approach has generally been to ignore them. Not everything can be understood in the natural realm, but some people are not gifted to know this, so I tend to just ignore them.
All these people insulting Ewes because of my article may be new to Ghanaweb, because I have always seen the good in Akufo-Addo (they are free to look up my past articles on Akufo-Addo). I believe this man is capable of transforming Ghana, so long as he treats all the citizens with respect.
The Mahama administration was very corrupt, and Ghanaians are glad to see it gone. For example, most people don't know the story behind the ferrying of CASH to the Black Stars in Brazil two years ago, but I do. If that had happened in any Western country, the president would have had to resign, but not in our Ghana.
I truly pray that Akufo-Addo will root out corruption, because God has blessed Ghana with lots of natural resources, which should meet our basic economic needs. May Ghana become great in the next few years under Akufo-Addo.

Dungeon Master,
Thanks for your skewed commentary on my records here. I bet there are others here who would vouch that I had come out to attack and called on others to desist from insulting people who post anti-Ewe insults as Asantes in particular. My own experiences show that the most openly virile Akans who don't claim to be Asantes any longer but were indeed once within the Asante Kingdom as subjects and vassal states are the worst culprits. I therefore coined the phrase "some Asantes and their hangers-on" to represent them.
In fact, proper Asantes who know their histories don't indulge in such insults against Ewes, especially Anlos, for obvious reasons not known to the ignorant commoners. When I was writing on Okyeame in the '90s, the late Dr Francis Kwame Appiah, grandson of the NLM mojo himself Akoto Barfuor, who was my mate in Legon and Dept colleague in the Univ. of Bergen gave me his tacit support. When I went a little too far, he'd send me email.
Of course, I had repeatedly mentioned in my writings that the tripartite alliance of Akwamu-Asante-Anlo formed the predatory entente on the one hand that used to dominate pre-colonial Gold Coast, so we Anlos don't have any historical animosity against the Akwamus and the Asantes in particular. Any insults against them is also an insult against us, and I noticed that some white historians even double them for us Anlos (Awunas). Busia, a Brong, came and spoiled all that.
Anyway, as I discovered myself when collecting data in deep Asante - Jacobu and Nyinahin - in early 1993, being recognised as "Awuna" still carried a load of pluses with many in the Ash/R. Of course, one of the first thing I did upon reaching Kuamsi was to go and look up my colleague and friend Asare's father to greet him, in order to assure the father that he is keeping good company. He said Ewes who worked at UAC with the father were his role models and he never tired of telling them how they arrived poor and worked themselves to higher positions by studying same time by correspondence courses and made sure their children attend school.
Was in Ghana early this Oct. and shared memoirs with a snr sister who was the State Attorney in charge of the Ash/R for many years. I found out she was a confidante and free legal adviser to Efua Donkor. And when some old people with knowledge of history wanted favours, they'd tell her "as for you Awunas, you're Asantes that we put at the coast. We're one people". Phew! Of course, we knew better.
In view of the foregoing, my view of Akan ethnocentrism in Ghana has never been what you portrayed. It is encompassing and cuts across the present borders of the Ash/R. It doesn't include even all "Asantes", 33% of whom are estimated to have slave origins and thus cannot hit their chests and claim their ancestors were also there when the Golden Stool landed on the laps of Osei Tutu I.
Concerning my position on this god, god nonsense, this is what I wrote and was posted on Ghanaweb 21st Dec. 2012.
"Fourthly, for heaven’s sake! Ghana is a secular state, not a Christian nation! Keep it as such and leave that God, God, God nonsense which you yourself is a cheerleader, following on the heels of the TB Joshua mesmerised late President Mills, out of the Castle! Some of us who have mentally evolved cosmologically into the scientific, rational world order, leaving behind us the Weberian, primitive substantive rationalisations of our ancestors, find it most annoying and depressing the way God is invoked by pundits of both the NDC and NPP and their fake pastor hirelings in their dubious pursuit of political power. If there is indeed hell, we all know that all of them will burn at its fieriest corner one day, anyway."
Now, I haven't evaluated Mahama's tenure yet but you can judge for yourself if he paid any heed to this 4th item in my Xmas hamper for him. I won't sit down and say nothing against mentally stunted PhD holders like Kabideta Pryce to continue with purveying and perpetuating this major cog in the vicious cycle of backwardness and underdevt.
Yes, my great, great grandfathers gave the land for the missionaries to build the first schools and churches on. My grandfather gave the land for the old Lodge building in Keta, etc., but I have come a full cycle to reject almost all that they stood for.
No bleeding god created the universe and certainly didn't play any role in who won the elections in Ghana, just as no Russian hacker caused the winning of Trump in the US!
Dan wrote a heap of nonsense! Do you know the explanation the NPP creeps are assigning for Ms Charlotte Osei was allegedly refusing to release the results and declare Nana the winner? That she has been sleeping with Mahama! What explanation does Pryce have for his allegation?
When one of such creeps in my shop added that Osei was a Nigeria, in the presence of Nigerians who were part of the discussion, I gave it to him well, well, and told them he belonged to the party whose leaders and members are more racistic than the BNP and UKIP and they threw Nigerians out of Ghana in 1970, he ran away. At least before he told them I was just a Togolese refugee in Ghana! Btw, he is from the E/R, not Ash/R.

Stop this nonsense talk when we are dealing with votes and governance. I wonder why tribal insults are being thrown at Ewes all over in reaction to this simple feature. So who is the primitive one here? Akans will always remain foolish primates, covering their heads with plantain leaves to curse. How many Ewes can you useless dirty envious primitive akans compare yourselves with? Ewes arent dying to be ghanaians even though we became Goldcoasters before dirty asantes were invited from the foerst. We see ourselves proudly first as Ewes before Ghanaians. Who is akufo addo that we havent seen before that upon his winning of this one in many elections, so much noise is being bleated out? EWES joined Ghana by compulsion just as every other tribe. Thats the fact and its only a fool like asantes especially who will challenge this because they are so stupid that they chase rats as far as their burrows and even smoke them out merely for their faeces. Leave Ewes alone. We havent proactively insulted akufo. addo on his ascension to the throne. Akans dont know Ewes well for if they did they would know how well majority of us Ewes silently wish akufo addo well, e ven as many many may not have voted for him. Go on with your insults but remember that unprovoked insults and attacks always betray ones inferiority complex and unwarranted insecurity. If i get the impression that i make you feel insecure it simply tells me am better than you. So go on okay. Egbemela

Why all these tribal insults? Please know that as these words proceed from you, they shape who you are and affect your thoughts, actions, and health. Yes, your health. Both physical and spiritual. And for those of you who bear the name of Christ and call yourself Christian, know that fresh water and salt water cannot flow from the same spring! Cut the tribal insults out!

And so if four years from now, we are still crawling in the dung, you will have your answer for our retrogression in the trash being spewed here by these way-ward citizens.

You again? Why are you surprised? I am getting tired at Either Your Plain Ignorand or Hypocrisy! What us new here??? Nothing! nothing! nothing! All these attacks at Ewes and worse we have heard many times before! Or you indeed that Plain Ignorant of these facts! Ha! hab!
Rather than re-posting one of my old article decrying these attacks, I shall continue with the publication of my series. I have a 10-series on ice for over 10 years now. In fact, as part of a book manuscript which started in the 1990s, you'd agree with me that I have been sitting on them for too long.

Good job my Brother Daniel Pryce. You always make me proud.
The NPP government, now in euphoria with the people’s mandate, can choose to rule in pattern with the foolish NDC government which buried its head in the political sand and believed that its dark deeds were all concealed. We can choose to go on a witch-hunt against our perceived enemies, give ourselves emoluments through judgment debts, bribe the people and lie to them, set up Ponzi schemes and characterize them as good investments, or engage in all the familiar shenanigans of those mountebanks now voted out of government.
Then as surely, the NPP will be out of office with more ignominy than these jokers that have just lost power.
On the other hand, we can build upon the resourcefulness of our own people through the best forms of education and training and find work for the youth. We can protect the environment from the imported poisons we use and instead, plant many trees. We can build the roads and bridges and the schools and the factories just as we have promised to do. We can also preserve the public purse, the public trust, the national resource, the natural environment and the mineral resources with which the country is abundantly endowed, using same to the satisfaction of the people. We can provide electricity and water for the people, pay them living wages for their work, provide their health and social welfare needs……
We can also hold the sovereignty of our people intact, respecting them, loving them, serving them, healing them and being conscious of their plight without regard to their language or ethnicity.
All the foregoing is a matter of our conscience if we choose to lead in honor; but it is also a matter of duty if we must capture power and hold on to it for a long time. We must be both honorable and dutiful. We must live up to our promises to the people and broaden the base of our support, eschewing revengeance against our perceived enemies.
If we do all the foregoing without departing from the left or the right, the NPP government will stay in power for one hundred years.
The choice is all ours!
