I think you have given the precise reason why Amidu should appointed special prosecutor.
I have a very cynical opinion of all politicians and whilst the impunity under Mahama was particularly nauseating, there is no reason to think that given the right opportunities some individual members of the NPP will not do the same.
I think a special prosecutor who is not in bed with the ruling party will be the best person for the job and Amidu has by far the best credentials to see the job through.
While Amidu concentrates on looking to the past to retrieve our stolen monies, Nana Addo can concentrate on improving our economy, education and health, looking forward.

So now its official: all those loudmouthed Nkrumahists (no one has to guess who they are: Lungu and Co) who cant stop beating our ears with Nkrumah this, Nkrumah that, are all closeted diehard NDC sympathizers/voters. They praise the philosophical posture of Saint Nkrumah but at the polls or away from the polls their hearts cast a vote for the NDC rather than the remnant of their saint's governing philosophy (CPP). Don't get me wrong, this is not the first time I am hearing this. Samuel Adjei Sarfo has exposed those frauds here on Ghanaweb already. Your comment is a confirmation of that.

Martin has been there before and I don’t see what he left behind in the department of prosecuting people. You may even remember that his own NDC colleagues mock him that “he couldn’t even prosecute a fly”.
Martin in that position will not give the NPP peace to do their own thing, so they will block any such suggestion in the bud. NPP are not coming to serve Ghana, they are coming to pay their bills.

I fully agree with you, Sarpong. As much as I wish Martin Amidu was NPP and could easily fill the position of AG, the position of AG should go to a bona fide NPP candidate who holds unflinching loyalty to the Executive Council, which in fact is the role of the Attorney General.
There are several reasons why Martin Amidu would not qualify as AG; but the most important one is this: Ghana's parliament consists of elected representatives, and the appointment of Amidu would preclude him from sitting in Parliament; although he can be in Cabinet like Nduom in Kufuor's administration, but not necessarily in the legislature. The reason why this is important is that, Amidu should be in Parliament as AG so as advise the government upon all matters of law connected with legislative enactments and upon all matters of law referred to him by government.
As a Special Prosecutor Amidu would be appointed by the AG and and work under the purview of the AG, which would him (Amidu) limited power as to whom he prosecute. Under the 'nyebro' system in Ghana, prosecuting a corrupt NPP personality will not sit well with bogey men in NPP, unless perhaps Akufo-Addo wants to be seen as an effective leader in the fight against corruption.

Kwabena Yeboah,

We did not begin our essay's title with "Serious" for no worthwhile purpose.
Work on a revised Constitution has already been completed, more than once, practically.
So, what will prevent Akufo-Addo from quickly completing that work, with the necessary Ghana-centered provisions that takes care of the shameful case with the dual hats AG-cum-Min of Justice?
Did you forget your own story with respect to Lee Kwan Yew of Singapore?
Or, might Akufo-Addo not be in that league?
Come on, sir!
In the 21st Century of globally competitive countries where many private corporations have 1,000 of experienced, professional lawyers, why should we continue as if a Ghana AG, with a seat in a normally dead Parliament, is a worthwhile thing for Unitary Ghana?
Why must Ghana be stuck on that stupid Rawlings Constitution?
Is that not a fundamental Ghana interest objective, if we want to claim we are seriously and want to truly fight corruption by public officials?
Or, might that by "witch-hunting", in the mind of Akufo-Addo, as he is reported to have shared with Rawlings less than 24 hours ago?
This entire essay is about a SERIOUS "Akufo-Addo (who) wants to be seen as an effective leader in the fight against corruption...".
What is the Constitutional basis for "Special Prosecutor Amidu", or anyone, under an Akufo-Addo presidency?

Did you ever hear the name of Mr. Gyeke Darko, the former Director of the Public Prosecutions?
Anyway, go back and read the constitution. The President , through the Chief Justice, can establish any court or judicial institution to handle and judiciary related situations. Very soon, your people will realize that corruption doesn't pay. Corney, there is no rhyme or reason in the argument that Amidu is pursuing his anti-corruption actions because of "vengeance". The former president was pressured by those devil disciples to fire Amidu because he was in their way. Unfortunately, the same people, it is alleged, turned round and murdered the president who protected them. That was a grievous fault. Amidu will expose the killers soon.

Will it be easy worthwhile as most of these debt were collaborated by own Ghanaians : For instance the sold of the drillship to abrogate out debt was the failure of government own lawyers at U.K. represent Ghana at international court of justice: It was a part of conspiracy of the these lawyers representing Ghana to conspire to put Ghana into awkward position so as mitigate to get share of the lawsuit. And many cases which are similar therefore, Hilding Mahama responsible is somehow irrelevant.Though they could have work hard to retrieved some of the money but the same Ghanaians who are corrupt fill our institutions undermining government effort and trust me Nana Akuffo Addo will face similar situation as we look forward for his presidency

You must be living in an entirely different world.
Why must you conflate our work and defense of Kwame Nkrumah's legacy for Unitary Ghana, with the work and agenda of "Kwaku Baako, Kwesi Pratt, Ivor Greenstreet"?
What is that about?
So, please go back and review our work on these pages, and at GhanaHero.com.
Simply Google our moniker, if are inclined to be lazy today.
Then, come back again and explain to all the people what you mean by "CPP paaa nie"!

NANA,
Thanks greatly for the follow up.
Our critique of Mr. Mahama and his NDC party is part of our record - on these same pages and as mentioned, on GhanaHero.com.
You know, we've worked on many projects on behalf of Ghana over the years - from the Freedom of Information Bill, to Sustainable Energy Policy, to Official Corruption, to the Oil Contracts, etc.
We never saw or believed any of the people you referenced were particularly interested, or bothered.
With respect to the Oil contracts where the Fair-Trade Oil Share Ghana FTOS-Gh/PSA Campaign sent documents to many of those same individuals and made presentations before them (among others), none of those so-called "Nkrumahist" took any real, active interest. In fact, while several "Nkrumahists" signed the FTOS-Gh/PSA petition, they did so as individuals.
That petition is still online, at: www.change.org/p/ghana-fair-trade-oil-share-psa-campaign-ftos-gh-psa.
All this to say, Ghana-centeredness means that we must continue to speak truth to the person who has the authority and the power.
We imagine none of the signatories and supporters of the Fair-Trade Oil Share Ghana FTOS-Gh/PSA Campaign voted for Mr. Mahama for the loss of over $6 billion to Ghana over the last 5.5 years. In that respect, we believe that we played a role in the loss of power by Mahama and his NDC people.
Greetings!

I have decided to come out of my self-imposed exile to voice my support for your opinion. I strongly believe Nana Addo can start to demonstrate his desire to fight the menace of corruption in this country by appointing this selfless Ghanaian, Martin Amidu, to a position where he can spearhead the fight. An Independent Special Prosecutor with the powers of a Superior Court Judge to send bad guys to Nsawam, can push some sense into people who have made it their profession to steal government funds at the least opportunity. Incoming government officials will also tread carefully before they act.
