A misunderstanding between two brothers over cat meat has resulted in one of them being in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
For causing unlawful harm to his brother, Eric Fobih, 28, a mason, has been sentenced to one year in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Eric, who pleaded guilty to the one count of causing unlawful harm preferred against him by the prosecution, was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Ms Afua Adu-Amankwah and sentenced accordingly.

In passing the sentence, the judge said though the crime committed was second felony and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, she took into consideration the fact that the convict was not known to the law, his youthful age “and besides, he pleaded guilty at his first appearance.’’

Facts

Presenting the facts of the case, Inspector Daniel Opoku, told the court that the convict, a mason and Nkansah,unemployed were both residents of Kokoso, a suburb of Kumasi.

He said on March 27, 2014, the two brothers had a meal of cat meat for lunch and reserved some for their supper after which they both left the house.

However, he said after they had left, Nkansah sneaked into the house and ate the rest of the meat.

According to Inspector Opoku, when Eric returned later in the evening and realised that his elder brother had eaten the meat, he confronted him and that resulted in a fight.

Mr Opoku said in the process, Eric took a cutlass that was lying on the ground, and inflicted deep wounds on the hands and legs of the brother.

The victim was rushed to the Emergency and Trauma Unit of KATH where he had remained on admission.

Later on, the case was reported to the police leading to Eric’s arrest.

How is it character assassination if people raise genuine questions about Akufo-Addos' claim of having qualified as a lawyer? Are you aware that to gain admission to the Middle Temple in England one must have obtained at least a 2nd Class Honours baccalaureatte degree which Akufo-Addo doesn't have and yet he claims to have been admitted to that reputable and prestigious law institution? How did a candidate like Akufo-Addo gain admission to the Middle Temple when he secured a mere 3rd Class degree in Economis from the University of Ghana? How could he have gained admission there when he wasn't qualified? And how was he called to the Ghana Bar when he can't mention a single name of those colleagues with whom he went through the ceremony on the date on which he said he went through the process?

How is it character assassination when someone has raised legitimate questions about the fact that Akufo-Addo is unable to tell Ghanaians which law school he attended and then he claims that his law certificate is missing? And you suppose that anyone who raises questions in connection with Akufo-Addo's lies to Ghanaians should apologise merely because stupid and ignorant people who have come to accept corruption as part of their culture and help promote such and therefore don't care how corrupt their presidential candidate is and so have voted to elect him president of our dear country? Okoampa-Ahoofe, you're a part of Ghana's problems of corruption than of the solution, since you've failed to help answer those critical questions regarding Akufo-Addo's academic qualification, not to mention his general track record of being corrupt. Now, I hardly log into Kwame's diatribe. No time to spare. Besides, what else has he got to say besides his ethnocentric vibes? I know what his problem is and I have been waiting for an opportune time to address them. For readers not aware, his father never identified himself as from Akyem, but rather from Peki, just as many of his relations who see Peki as their home town and claim to be Ewes. Yes, his great grandfather came from Akyem to the Peki area way back in the 1860s and got married to a daughter of one of the Kwaku Deis after the wars there ended with the defeat of the invading Asantes and their allies in the Sagrenti War. The Akyems, led by one warlord Dompey, came to help the people of Weme, or Krepi, as the Europeans called it. Unfortunately, some powerful Anlo chieftains (not the only Ewes, btw), quite against the admonition of their Awoamefia and the British stationed at Keta, were still allied to the Asantes thanks to their control of amunition supplies to the Asantes, the western source from Elmina to the Nzima area having been blocked. These people were very rich warlords and kingdoms (dukor), and controlled 1000s of armed men. Actions taken against them and how some had to go into exile for several years in Togo are all recorded in the annals and history books. Moxon's (the white Aburi chief) amusing book gave one of the best account I had read.

I think Kwame came across the details of this history while in America and developed his pschotic hatred for the Anlos in particular. The Akyem kingdom was not an innocent victim of Asante aggression but a major player in the predatory wars for slaves and booty during the pre-colonial era. At one time after the abolition, over 10000 escaped slaves from Akyem turned up in the Gold Coast, not to mention the many others coming individually and in small groups.

It was by mere act of providence that the then stronger Akyems were defeated by the Asantes (treachery did the Techimans in), thanks to the "Hausa" [obviously "Northerners") bowmen in the Asante army when the heavy downpour rendered their (Akyems) superior firepower useless. Now, I wonder if Ahoofe is aware that had the Anlos provided the canoes to ferry the chasing Asante army across the Volta, when the Akyems also ran helter skelter into Eweland to as far as Togo (just as the Gas, Wenchis, Nkonyas and Akwamus before), where some remained up to today, there wouldn't be an independent Akyem state today? Oh! That history must be re-told without all the hush-hush which even the great Wilks couldn't unveil and the Adu Boahens repeat myths to cover.

I think it was high time we tell the whole truth about what lies behind and the origin of this ethnocentric bigotry, hatred and prejudice we witness in Ghana. Keeping quiet is no longer the option.

Kwame, I am sick and tired of Akyem this, and Akyem that. Akyems became bit players in pre-colonial times when Osei Kwame or Kwame Osei, whatever, was trashed by the Asantes in 1763. Those who did not run and crossed the Volta were marched and resettled elsewhere, Asante Akyem, for instance. After that, they were nothing in fighting prowess compared to the Anlos. You see, it was Torgbui Sri II (in private life Cornelius Kofi Kwawukume) who raised the 15000 troops for the British to take over Togo from the Germans and received the KMAC and cooptation into the LegCo as the first African chief before Nana Ofori Atta. But he was no stooge and refused to allow the troops he raised to be taken to Cameroon to fight the Germans there. Incidentally, his last place of trading was in Cameroon where he had settled as a big merchant (one of the wives was even from there) before his recall in 1906 to become Awoamefia. He joined the LegCo as a most experienced person who knew the whole of the West African coast and speaking 4 European languages and several West African languages, from Sierra Leone to the Cameroon. When he became Awoemefia in 1907, people were still keeping their slaves, not to mention only trokosi, a cultural practice brought to southern Eweland by Dangme fugitives, among several other cultural practices, etc., they brought with them. The efforts at abolsihing such slavery and practices such as panyarring considered as obnoxious are in the archives, some not even opened yet. Time we open the archives.

I have noticed that the NPP Scumbag who has been abusing my name and familym as well as others, is at it here too. Why should we allow such dzimaplaviwo (unbred kids) to continue abusing us and we remain silent because of what is written in the Bible or some dopey maxim about a mad man taking your pioto or loins cloth while you are in the bathroom?
