  We import too much so we need PRODUCTION .We import food to the tune of $1.5bn a year should that not be an incentive to produce food? Well if food prices go up then locally produced food should be cheaper .Don't you think so ? Again that should encourage us to manufacture.The great Nkrumah used to talk about Ïmport substitution". Unless and until we do that the cedi will continue to depreciate

  The stability of the cedi is not the problem; the US dollar could not be more stable over the years. If the NPP and NDC governments wants to be good copycats instead of the current shoddy work trying their hand at democracy, they need to read and understand what effective government institutions do. The US depatment of Agriculture and it's affiliated institutions are the ones bringing stability to farm prices. Prices of farm products are dictates of global supply and demand but to keep prices at home high to be worth the work of America's farmers governments, Democrat or Republican, with foresight and wisdom do buy the extra farm products and produce to for storage, distribution and gifting to poor nations to stabilize farm prices in the country. The value of the cedi, high or low, is not going to help farmers much if the people cannot afford prices on local markets. Furthermore who said Ghana's farmers can truly and fairly compete with other giants on the global markets? Let the Ghana government buy and redistribute farm produce around the country to ensure no farm products go to waste in farming communities while the few that make it to markets in metro areas are out of reach to most or used to extract a pound of flesh from metro residents.
