Why didn't ECOWAS invite Mahama directly to go to Gambia but rather request that from the newly elected President? What you should realize is that, the members of ECOWAS know the diplomatic rights of doing things and could not have invited Mahama to represent Ghana without the newly elected President of Ghana approval and as a matter of fact, I don't even believe the ECOWAS leaders would have been disrespectful to request for Mahama knowing he was not a head of state. You are getting a massaged information from Ndc who are still mourning their devastated defeat and bent on doing everything to take credit due to the newly elected President.

I think the writer can present what he has gathered in this forum, and if you think he is wrong, fine with me. Does it men that any time anyone contradicts this President's/Government's official position, we will be reminded that NDC are sore losers, still smarting from their defeat in the elections? I am hearing and reading that a lot. It will soon be a tired song. How would you describe the NPP from December 2012 till August 2013 ???

We are tired of that.

Anybody who says something against the new government is first branded NDC supporter. But there are many Ghanaians who don't care for either NDC or NPP. There are lots of us who wanted Mahama off but didn't want Akufo-Addo either. When we criticize Akufo-Addo, it is not because we support NDC or even voted for them.

Perhaps the present writer went on too much but there seems to be some deception in the manner in which the info was presented. All he was saying was that Akufo-Addo did not appoint Mahama to an ECOWAS mission. Akufo-Addo only approved a decision taken by others on some ongoing project. It was good on the part of Akufo to do that but there is a difference.

Afterall, ALL politicians like to gain from any move and the writer is just telling us to try to see through such tricks.

He said the summit was opened to heads of state and common sense and plain truth show that Mahama was not President and couldn't have attended this summit without the tacit approval of President Addo to represent him on behalf of Ghana.

His submission that ECOWAS leaders specifically asked the President elect for Mahama cannot be true, that would have been a diplomatic faux pas and disrespect for Ghana President and the leaders of ECOWAS will not do that.

It makes sense and practical that, President Nana Akuffo Addo would have told the ECOWAS leaders since President Mahama started that diplomatic mission with others and in view that he had just been sworn in, it will be better for President Mahama to represent him on behalf of Ghana, that is my argument.

Whether you wanted Akuffo Addo or not, majority of Ghanaians voted for him and you didn't so brace yourself for the next four years because he has been given the mandate and those of us who supports him will be here to defend him when lies are being told, Mr Kodzo.

What I dislike is to brand anybody who didn't vote for Akufo-Addo as NDC supporter. There is a difference to that also.

Akufo-Addo IS president. Nobody denies that fact. The election is behind us. We, Ghanaians, must look forward and put the searchlight on the ruling government, not the one that has gone before. That is why it is silly to be branding people sore losers. Mahama is gone and will never come back. The person in the hot seat is Akufo-Addo. All criticism will be aimed at him. SARPONG, brace yourself for that and don't just say any criticism of him is a lie...

NDC should give Nana Akufo-Addo's presidency time to form his government and stop minute by minute fault finding. I do not see any anything dishonest about the statement from the presidency with the decision by the new president to let ex-president continue as a member of ECOWAS Mediation Team.

Whether the request specifically came from ECOWAS or not, we should not forget it was prerogative of president Akufo-Addo to make the final decision. He could have turned down the request. The presidency was not under any obligation to mention that the request was from ECOWAS to create the impression that the president could not make his own decision and not only to take away the spirit of continuity but also the collaboration between the ex-president and the new one behind the decision which a plus for Ghana internationally.

You really have to be stupid to believe that ECOWAS heads, who are Presidents of other countries will disrespect another head of a country and tell him or her they want somebody who is not the head of that country when the summit calls for the head of the country.

What you also have to realize is that, even if the ECOWAS heads of states will make a diplomatic blunder by requesting for Mahama, Nana could have told them point blank that Mahama is not the President of Ghana and he could not represent Ghana and ECOWAS could not have done anything about it.

At the time Mahama last attended the meeting he was not the Head of State of Ghana, therefore he could not have attended the meeting without the consent of Nana no matter whatever the wish or request of Ecowas was. Nobody can represent the President of Ghana at any meeting without the consent of the President so you should accept that Mahama was assigned de facto or de jure to the meeting by President Akkufo-Ado. However you present your case, President Akuffo Add sent Mahama. Technically, these leaders were representing their respective countries in their capacities as president and not as individuals. On the bases of this argument, mahama was no longer the president of Ghana after the inauguration and was therefore meant to step aside for President Akuffo Addo to be playing that role. ECOWAS couldn't have forced Mahama to act at the expense of Nana Addo. They could only have pleaded with him to let Mahama continue in that role. Who knows whether Nana would have wanted to play that role himself? One can conclude from the foregone that indeed President Akuffo Addo asked Mahama to play that role and not ECOWAS who did.

There is no real explaining to do on this matter. I believe that Nana Addo has more important considerations to occupy him as president. Just one week in opposition and you are already crying wolve all over the place? Who told you Mahama could have represented himself at the ECOWAS mediating table?. Without the consent of the president Mahama could have gone no where near that mediating table so what are your talking about? He started that process in his capacity as the president and not in his capacity as John Mahama and so therefore, there was no way he could have continued after he lost the elections, the next president was supposed to continue with the mediation but Nana Addo did well by allowing Mahama to continue and without his consent Mahama couldn't have continued with the process, it therefore stands to reason that he went as a representative of the president period. I suggest you take your time in opposition because you gave 8 or more years to go, don't exhaust yourselves so early
