  People who are banking on Akufo-Addo to effect change in a corrupt and duplicitous society such as Ghana are warming themselves to rude awakening. As I have always maintained, no leader who has lived in the country for a long time has the conviction of purpose to redeem the country, not by a stretch of the imagination. They are too saturated by the 'fama nyame' and 'nyebro' culture.
  
  Akufo-Addo may try his best to curb corruption, but his best cannot be good enough for the corrupt chiefs who are custodians of our culture, and the so called opinion leaders in society. Mahama's backroom bungalowgate with Asantehene and Akufo-Addo is a case in point. The corrupt Asantehene's influence would thwart every effort by Akufo-Addo on corruption, as long as Akufo-Addo perceives Asantehene as 'king' and ready to obey his summons to Manhyia.
  
  To make an effective change in society, the country needs a Ghanaian who has lived abroad for a number of years; worked in the western world and holds no allegiance to chiefs, opinion leaders, priests and prophets. The diasporan must have the conviction of purpose to fight corruption against the grain of culture and vicissitudes. There must be someone in the diaspora who fits this bill, if not we are all dead.
