Prof, you've said it all. its very frustrating to ship any goods and items to the Tema port and make an attempt to clear them yourself. The bureaucracy is just insane. Not to talk about the naked robbery by custom officers in plain uniform and the so-called national security personnel. i sure hope that the new Boss, Sir John will have the guts to make the long overdue changes to make it easy on importers importers. There has to be a way for importers to know in advance what is due as import duties and tariffs. Government should move away from asking importers to count thousands of Cedis to somebody sitting behind a counter at the port. Import duties should be paid by importers at various designated banks in the country.

ou better build a police station at the harbor and put the special prosecutor in charge of administering the checks and balances of all these harbors. Corruption culture in ghana is deeply ingrained

I hope your advice sticks. Bone head Mahama and his thugs refused to do anything about it because he is more corrupt than the officials at the ports.

Most of the clearing agents use the 'refund system' to cheat importers.Sometimes they use the wrong tariff which attracts higher taxes, pay the duties involved and later on use an Adjustment Entry to claim the excess duties paid.In most case the importers are not aware of such transactions and the excess duties refunded are pocketed by the clearing agents and customs officers. Corruption at our entry points are rampant and they stink.Ghanaians are thieves and unpatriotic and yet always turn around to blame the government.God can be elected to rule the country unless Ghanaians change their unpatriotic attitude the nation will not progress.

Prof, I share in your frustration at the Port. Perhaps, the semi-literate guys did their "PhD" theses in 'Bribery, an effective tool to ensure easy clearance of goods at the Ghana port'

I think the government should set up online payment system so individuals can check and make payment without any middle man.
