You clearly do not understand the dynamics behind the voting behaviour of the people. You think when the masses of Ghanaians go to vote, they're thinking about the national debt, macro-economic indicators and such things? No. Many of them vote according to tribal lines, anyway, not on the size of the national debt.
It doesn't mean the people are stupid. They did not vote NPP because of the promises Akufo made. The people voted for a change AWAY from something, not a change TO something. Incidentally, the NPP was the only "viable" alternative. That was why they won. If there had been a third party of somewhat equal strength, the NPP would've had a hard time wining even with the same personnel and message.
Even so, Akufo's victory margin was clear-cut but not a landslide. More than 40% of Ghanaians wanted someone other than him!

I am again surprised that Badu still wrote in election mood. He failed to notice that some of the campaign promises have already been modified. For example,one million dollar per district is what will be used to establish some of the factories.
Again, the Trade Ministry say that some of the factories are already existing and that all npp will do is to upgrade them.
Finally, Bad et al, campaign and voting are over. Let's combine efforts to build Ghana.

They sheepishly accepted cash, mobile phones, head pans, rice and sugar, salt. The noted nation wreckers received top range cars and vehicles. But the die was cast and reality dawned on the nation.
