Okoampa, it was the WHOLE of Trans-Volta Togoland that was incorporated into the Gold Coast, NOT into Ghana!!! Ghana came into being on March 6, 1957 when Gold Coast became Ghana. By then the TVT had been an integral part of Gold Coast for almost 3 months. TVT was about 40% of the former German territory known as Togo.

The so called Homeland Group has absolutely nothing to do with Anlos. These guys are not fighting for Anlos because Anlos were not part of TVT. These guys are fighting for an old and defunct entity which includes even some Gonjas and Bimbilas. This group was formed during the Kufuor regime.

Check your facts before you write your ethnocentric articles. No single politician talks for any group. And there's certainly nothing like Anlo-Ewe.

It is just unfortunate for you that the people you wrote about with such emotions were born in Akan speaking areas of Ghana, some of whom know your own mother language than you.
So you want us to believe that though both Prof. Enyidewu Awunor and Kwaku Anyidoho hate Akans and perhaps their language, but decided to lear, write and speak it.
When I was growing in my village in the early 1960s it happen that those who were in love of CPP and Kwame Nkrumah were the literate in the village, plus those who know the value of the human person.
My own cousin Komla Agbeli Gbedema was a comrade and lover of Kwame Nkrumah. The villager who was held for me reason but for belonging to CPP Kushitor Gunu was from my village. NLC fabricated a lot of illusions about that man just because he was a member of CPP.
There is also a fact that some Ewhes were living in Ghana before some other Ewhes migrated from Nortse in Togo. It is also a fact that Ewhes have settlements from Gbadagli in Nigeria to Ada in Ghana, and even the names of some of the towns and villages after Ada sound Ewhe. However Adas and Ewhes are one and the same people.
It is a fact that Ewhes love Kwame Nkrumah so much that is cement statue still stands at the Dabala Junction.

While Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. is an offshoot and admirer of the most prominent leaders of the 'Matemeho' UP/NLM ideologues, whose methods of winning political power left a sordid, grisly trail of corpses of innocent Ghanaians in their wake, Koku Anyidoho seems to be warming up to similar separatist agenda, not much different from the failed attempts by the late S. G. Antor and his Togoland Congress Party.

The striking intrigue of the current feud between Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. and Anyidoho is that both their antecedent separatist movements, the Togoland Congress and the UP/NLM, were close allies in joint opposition to Nkrumah's CPP.

So, what might have gone amiss to get these two proteges of Nkrumah's Opposition fight against each other? While we wait for an in-depth analysis of the core issue that triggered this feud, one thing stands out most clearly, and that is the shared flaws of megalomania and bigotry in both. It must be noted also how hypocritical both men are. Whilst Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr. cannot get off his 'Trokosi'-bashing ranting, he is reported to be married to a lady who is one of those he relentlessly derides as "Trokosi".

Meanwhile, why doesn't Koku Anyidoho tell us what the meaning of his name is? He would be lying to hell if he denies that 'Koku', for his first name, is not a contrived version of the Akan name, "Kwaku", and "Anyidoho", not a congealed derivation from "Ani da ho", an Akan phrase meaning being sober, or vigilant, when used euphemistically.

Egos, when over-inflated, will surely run afoul into some other person's dignity. And here, the clashing egos are battling on the turfs of their Tribes without any consensus authorization from their respective Tribe-folks. Who appointed either of these folks to be their Tribe's spokesperson?

Ghana deserves better and should be looking further into the future with the unity of her entire citizenry. The idiotic 'Trumpian' nationalism these two represent, I believe, is shunned by majority of Ghanaians from all groups.

So, it is time these feuding bigots withdrew their offending proboscises to let Ghana proceed for progress.

We must not forget that every massively disastrous intervention in Ghana's democratic dispensation has featured elements of these two parochial Tribalist Political groups as its leading operators. Beginning from, 1966 to date, we have the seen roguish among Ewes and Akans jostling to supersede one another in some incongruent political coalition to disrupt the Government in power. And yet, the same groups flagrantly display the worst flaws in our social cohesion. From Gbedemah to Jerry Rawlings, from Krobo Edusei to Kufuor, our State assets have been dissipated with impunity. And still, these groups are not satisfied and keep at each others' throats for more power and wealth to their exclusive advantage and at the expense of all others in Ghana. Ghana should not be the sole property of any of these groups, and they must respect the many other Tribes to spare the Nation their selfish destructive feuds.

You only write articles without making a thorough investigation and an in- dept analysis of the information you are putting forward for the people of Ghana and the whole world to consume. Big brains discuss issue and try to invent and or innovate and none of your contributions to knowledge has so far proven that you are actually a well learned person. The Danquah Busia tradition was started not only by these two noble people but was supported by the Northern people and the Trans Volta Togoland. Do you know who helped Dr Kwame Nkrumah win his Accra Central Parliamentary seat when he was in prison with the other big 5? It was mr Gbedemah who registered him at Accra central when he was in prison and campaigned for him. Do you know the person who composed the national anthem of Ghana? Do you know Dr Ephraim Ammanu's contribution to our collective development? Have you soon for gotten about Esther Ocloo of Nkulenu industry? What about Dr Amato, the first African Nuclear Physicist and a medical doctor who was practicing his trade at Kumasi and was poisoned when he went to attend a UN conference. Divisionist attitudes towards each one another would not help us. Whenever l hear or listen to our so call intellectuals behaving as the most ignorance people within this 21st century, l only weep for mother Africa. So when are we going to unite as one country let alone unite as an African people and also as one common race? Please Please Please God should come to our aid

For the past several years, I have been dismayed and alarmed by the bogus and unsubstantiated claims being peddled both in writing and declamation about the scope and import of the plebiscite that the United Nations Organisation conducted in Togoland under British Trusteeship in May 1956.

I have been persuaded to rejoin to stop this misinformation that could trigger some rather serious consequences.

In the first place, it should be pointed out that the only people that were involved were the people of the then districts of Ho, Kpando, Buem-Krachi, Gonja, Dagomba (Dagbon) and Mamprusi (Mamprugu).

Most certainly, the people of Peki, TONGU, ANLO, SOME and related Ewe were not involved, because they had constituted part of the British colony of the Gold Coast right from the second half of the nineteenth Century.

Secondly, there is no iota of truth in the claim that the decision of the United Nations Organisation following that plebiscite was time-bound, that is it was to remain in force fifty years.

Thirdly, the demand and agitation for secession of all Ewe people of the Volta Region of Ghana and with union the republic of Togo has no basis in law or fact.

The decision to organise a plebiscite in British Togoland was actually the culmination of a series of developments that had occurred following the demand for unification by the Ewe people who found themselves split into three distinct political entities, namely, the Gold Coast Colony, Togoland under British Trusteeship and Togoland under French Trusteeship. There is no need to enter into so much details here. The reader can consult two publications by the author. These are (1) The Plebiscite in Togoland. A Historical Account in the UNIVERSITAS, an Inter-Faculty Journal, University of Ghana. Vol. 5 No. 2. (New Series), May/November 1976 pp. 126 – 140 and the second, The Ewe Unification Movement. A Political History. Ghana Universities Press 1989. Pp 374.

The facts

In 1954 the U.N. General Assembly decided that in view of the eventual revision or termination of the Trusteeship Agreements under which both Togoland territories were administered by Britain and France, steps should be taken, in the light of the particular circumstances of British Togoland, to ascertain the wishes of the inhabitants of British Togoland as to their future:

“Without prejudice to the eventual solutions that they may choose whether it be independence, unification of an independent Togoland under British Administration with an independent Togo under French Administration, unification with an independent Gold Coast, or some other self governing independent status” (U.N General Assembly official records. General Assembly Resolution 860 (IX) 14 December 1954).

Accordingly, a mission was dispatched in August 1955 to ascertain the wishes of the people of British Togoland on their future. (U.N. Trusteeship Council official Records doc T/1206 ADD I. published in January 1956 as Doc T/1218. U.N. Visiting Mission to the Trust Territories of Togoland under French Administration and Togoland under British Administration. (Special Report on the Togoland unification Problem and the future of the Trust territory of Togoland.)

The Mission recommended that in view of the fact that opinion in the territory was markedly divided between two rival views, a plebiscite should be held to decide finally whether the people wanted integration with the Gold Coast or whether the territory should remain under trusteeship after separating from the Gold Coast until a practicable future status for it could be finally recommended.

It recommended specifically that the following questions be put at the plebiscite: a) Do you want the integration of Togoland under British administration with an independent Gold Coast ? And (b) Do you want the separation of Togoland under British administration from the Gold Coast and its continuance under trusteeship pending the ultimate determination of its political future?

The Mission also recommended that the plebiscite results be determined separately in four more or less ethnically distinct areas. It suggested that in the northern section where opinion favoured integration with the Gold Coast in view •of the distinctive •ethnic and linguistic characteristics of its population and the general conditions in the area, its future should be determined not by a majority of the total .vote in the trust territory but by a majority of the votes within this area. In the southern districts of Ho and Kpando, the mission had observed divided opinion for integration and independence for a unified Togo.

Again in these districts the majority of the people was Ewe and the question of Ewe unification had exerted considerable influence on the course of events in the region. The Mission recommended that in this region also the results of the plebiscite should be taken separately and should determine its future according to the choice of its voters.

TheBuem/Krachi area contained populations of different ethnic composition and with other distinctive linguistic characteristics. Even within this district, the mission noted that in its northern parts opinion strongly favoured integration with the Gold Coast while in its southern parts, opinion was divided between integration and unification. The Mission accordingly recommended that Buem Krachi be divided into two separate areas to ensure the greatest possible measure of satisfaction for the aspiration of the population. The mission therefore recommended that the results of the plebiscite should be determined separately in the following four areas:

1. Northern section of British Togoland

2. Kpando and Ho districts together as one unit

3. Buem Krachi district north of the southern boundary of the Akan Local

Council area

4. Buem Krachi district south of the boundary of the Akan Local Council area.

The future of each of these units should be determined by the majority vote in each case. There should, however, be one exception to this, based on considerations of effective administration. If either the northern or southern section alone decided in favour of integration with an independent Gold Coast such wishes of the people of that part should be implemented when the Gold Coast attained independence, If one side or both favoured separation from the Gold Coast pending a further determination of their future this would necessitate the continuance of the trusteeship over that part of the territory pending the ultimate decision as to its future.
