  Alow promotion to young nurses in non existed in Ghana. One need to be about age 40 plus before a nurse can get her first promotion in Ghana why? Where in the U.K a nurse could be promoted to a sister post after working for 2-4 years. Senior nurses in Ghana often bully junior nurses and make them feel inferior. There is the intimidation in the system. I left Ghana in 1984 because of such system when a senior Management team spoke to me like a child and created hatred in the profession. Today I am free to work when I want to work and any country. Ghanaians Nurse Lead and management should learn to respect junior nurses because they hold the key to the health of the nation.

  All these problems exist in nursing because its dominated by women. These women are not dynamic, they glorify mediocrity n hence have no urge to change the status quo . in addition, they exhibit their inherent female negative attitudes. There is so much envy among nurses themselves, poor relationship between nurses and student nurses, gossip everywhere, DDNSs and incharges feeling so superior and all they are concerned with is their title belts and intimidating the junior nurses and making them feel less of themselves , taging the few assertive nurses as disrespectful , still practicing romanticism and pleasing doctors instead of themselves. It goes on and on and on. Until there is a change in these behaviors and men taking charge of the affairs of nursing, the profession will always look like a second class profession.
