Martin Cameron Duodu was born in Asiakwa[1] in eastern Ghana and educated at Kyebi Government Senior School and the Rapid Results College, London, through which he took his O- and A-Levels by correspondence course.[3] He began writing while still at school, the first story he ever wrote ("Tough Guy In Town") being broadcast on the radio programme The Singing Net and subsequently included in Voices of Ghana,[4] a 1958 anthology edited by Henry Swanzy that was "the first Ghanaian literary anthology of poems, stories, plays and essays".[5]

Duodu was a student teacher in 1954,[6] and worked on a general magazine called New Nation in Ghana,[7] before going on to become a radio journalist for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation from 1956 to 1960, becoming editor of radio news[8] (moonlighting by contributing short stories and poetry to The Singing Net and plays to the programme Ghana Theatre).[9] From 1960 to 1965 he was editor of the Ghana edition of the South African magazine Drum,[10] and in 1970 edited the Daily Graphic,[3] the biggest-selling newspaper in Ghana.

In 1967, his novel The Gab Boys was published in London by André Deutsch. The "gab boys" of the title - so called because of their gabardine trousers - are the sharply dressed youths who hang about the village and are considered delinquent by their elders. The novel is the story of the adventures of one of them, who runs away from village life, eventually finding a new life in the Ghana capital of Accra.[11] According to one recent critic, "Duodu simultaneously represents two currents in West African literature of the time, on the one hand the exploration of cultural conflict and political corruption in post-colonial African society associated with novelists and playwrights such as Chinua Achebe and Ama Ata Aidoo, and on the other hand the optimistic affirmation of African cultural strengths found in poets of the time such as David Diop and Frank Kobina Parks. These themes come together in a very compassionate discussion of the way that individual people, rich and poor, are pushed to compromise themselves as they try to navigate a near-chaotic transitional society."[2]

Duodu also writes plays and poetry. His work was included in the anthology Messages: Poems from Ghana (Heinemann Educational Books, 1970).[3]

NDC has cried Wolf so many times nobody listens to them anymore.Their ridiculous bribery allegations and support for members tainted by State properties selloff/theft have eroded almost all their credibility.Even the American Democratic party has had to review and renew their party with new leaders and approach.If the NDC party refuses to expel the tainted members from leadership positions Ghanaians will be forced to look for a more credible opposition.When some NPP members in leadership positions were implicated in serious criminal behaviour they were not only demoted but suspended.NDC's impertinence is robbing Ghana of a credible opposition to counter check the governing party.

As I have always maintained, no leader born and raised in Ghana with a minimal foreign exposure (i.e, a leader who has not lived and worked extensively overseas) has nothing to offer Ghana. President Akufo-Addo is a home breed and would likely follow his predecessors - JA Kufuor, JJ Rawlings, Atta Mills, JD Mahama - hollow and unproductive.

Those who are counting on Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration to deliver Ghana from the present economic malaise will be hugely shocked in their boots, because history is rife in depicting Africans as poor economic managers. It's sad but true, Africans with no exposure to the west and its systems would always fail, and I have history on my side to back up this claim.

Since independence in 1957, only two leaders in our history had shown strong mental acuity and intellectual capacity to transform our country. They all spent a number of years abroad perfecting their political philosophy and ideological grounding before returning home to lead. The likes of Nkrumah and Busia are the leaders we need in today's Ghana to transform the country - uncorrupted by the Ghanaian cultural milieu, but with strong mental acumen and conviction of purpose to turn things around.

As I have always maintained in this forum, nation building is not for dummies and numskulls. Our country needs men with intelligence, men with mental acuity and dexterity, and from the looks of things Akufo-Addo or Bawumia are not one of them. It is unfortunate but true! Had Kutu Acheampong allowed KA Busia to complete his term in office, flooding in our cities during heavy downpour would have been the thing of the past, and rural development would have been Ghana's economic stronghold. In the same vein, Ghana would have been one of the economic giants in Africa if not the world had the saboteurs and nation wreckers not interrupted Nkrumah's impressive economic transformation for our country. "THE BEAUTIFUL ONE IS NOT BORN YET". But it won't be long.

The president of Botswana though born in England was bred in Botswana. He did not cocoon himself in the life of privilege that he had. His main purpose in life/politics is to change the lives of Batswana for good. And, he is on track. That is the salient aspect of politics. What is the purpose of Akufo Addo"s private army..called the invincible force? Lee Kuan Yew was spot on in eliminating the "Danquah types" in Singapore. In Ghana, they solicited they the help of the "unprincipled" US govt to derail our path to progress. And,now,they are in charge. What hope is there?

JJ Rawlings took the reins of government and spent almost 20 years and almost ran the country to the ground. His Finance Minister was none other than university of Legon Professor, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, the longest serving Finance Minister in our history. JJ Rawlings had the passion and Kwesi Botchwey had the knowledge, so the question is; why did they fail so miserably to improve the lives of our people? My brother Yaw, the answer is simple; they lacked the mental acuity and the intellectual capacity to transform the economy and improve the lives of our people. As I have always said, nation building is not for dummies and I am fully convinced all our past leaders were dummies and blockheads.

If you had read my script carefully you would have noticed the point I made, and that is, Nkrumah and Busia lived in abroad for a considerable number of years; Nkrumah 14 years (1935-1949) and Busia as Professor of Oxford University 5 years (1949-1954). Nkrumah and Busia not only went to school and return home like Akufo-Addo and Bawumia, they lived and observed the western systems, for better or for worse. When they returned home to lead, they had a vivid picture in their heads wherre to take the country.

You had mentioned Lee Kuan Yew - LKY spent years in Britain practicing law at Britain's prestigious Middle Temple before returning home to lead his country, he copied word for word Britain's entrepot economy. Do not forget, the President of Botswana was born to a white woman and you cannot discount the white upbringing and cultural exposure.

As I said in my piece, Africans need a paradigm shift and that shift will not come from a local African breed who has not been exposed extensively to the western systems.

Akufo-Addo, on the other hand, is a polishhhed man who has lived in the UK and also France and has, as Foreign Minister, seen the world at close quarters. With such a learning ground, he must exhibit the fruits of
real know-how with regar to every aspect of good governance.

I a sure he agrees his government is boated but he did it to please his party members. But having show them that he would liketo repay them for their loyalty, he must now tell them that politics is the art of the possible. The country wants him to change his stance from that of paty leader to that of President. Being President someties has to take one out of the oarty-political arena into the national one. Don't insult him by saying that he should behave like Mahama. There is no comparison to be made between the two ad to suggest there is one is a nasry isult perpetrated on Akufo-Addo.

As if the appointees weren't already too large, many of them are square pegs in round holes, with little to zero experience in the fields they have been assigned to. These deputy ministers will be learning on the job - instead of just selecting one person who is already qualified and experienced for the position. Please justify how this solves Ghana's problems?!

The government should listen to wise counseling if they want to succeed. After all, we are not kids in this country and they can't lie their way through.
