  If this judge can give a judgement like this, convicting a high level public officer in such a silly way, then God help us. If after Anas' exposure of these corrupt judges we still have this happening in Ghana then we are in more trouble than we can imagine.
  
  I agree with you Kofi, using the "animal called contempt" to gag people from freely expressing their views on issues, including judgements is very dangerous. I saw nothing wrong with Akrasi's comment and better (or worse?) still what the journalist reported.
  
  Civil society groups should not recoil into their shelves when such situations occur.
  
  By the way, was this judge following the Supreme Court's lead on this animal called contempt? Who will stop this judge if he believes the stage was set by what has happened in the Superior courts??

  Anas exposure has so far not resulted in much, because there is no strict enforcement. Law is toothless without absolute penalties. After Anas expo ten year sentences in fast track courts would have been a deterrent.

  Well said,ATA!.For me,our lawyers & judges in Ghana are illiterate literates,who must go back to school!.They are outdated or were just offered their certificates on a silver platter,period!

  MASSA KOFI, this is a reasonable piece. Too often in Ghana, justices/judges presiding over cocaine/drug trafficking cases have been 'influenced'.

  MASSA KOFI, this is a reasonable piece. Too often in Ghana, justices/judges presiding over cocaine/drug trafficking cases have been 'influenced'.
  
  Even, if in the view of the judge, Mr Akrasi Sarpong's remarks and the subsequent publication by the Daily Graphic are deemed to have breached contempt of court laws, the remarks and the publication didn't risk serious prejudice to the case. This is blatant and outrageous abuse of judicial power for whatever reason.
  
  Indeed, Chief Eke, having jumped bail in Brazil is a fact and factor that the court should take into account during the application for bail. Of course, being a Nigerian, he could flee Ghana whether he had surrendered his passport or not. There would have been far-reaching consequences for the state and Ghanaians if the drugs had entered the market in Ghana.

  The news media should do an expose on this judge ..all the news media..democracy must be protected and a pillar of democracy is freedom of speech..
  Most importantly...this judge needs to leave the bench...hes sold his soul ...

I will only touch on the very interesting aspect of what happened to the Chief Eke and Mr Chukwu matter.I have spoken to a few lawyers in Ghana and they seem not to know what happened, and one of these lawyers ought to know. Well, we have to dig, because the judiciary is tending to be a bit arrogant in some of these 'contempt' cases
