We must say the proposal by the Akufo Addo government "...to build 1 million toilet facilities across Ghana...a toilet in every house...", is one of the the most hare-brained ideas we've heard Akufo Addo's government make to date.

Our sense is, in the current Ghanaian context, due to the severe lack of urban facilities, what is needed for existing homes are really community toilets built to current environmental standards to protect land and water, that are still easily and safely accessible by women, the old, and handicapped, etc., and are properly managed, to encourage use. Those are the kinds of toilet facilities (solar-lighted and powered, surely), Ghana needs, even along the beaches, and waterways.

Then, of course, ensure that all proposed homes have toilets in the plans according to density planned for the dwelling.

A toilet that does not smell is easily attainable, including waterless/Ecosan systems!

But, the government must demonstrate better intelligence. They must prove their case and plans with real data.

They did not start on January 7 when Akufo Addo became president. In fact, Ghana was voted 7th dirtiest country dduring Mahama's regime. Did you hear him address the issue? Were you that concerned then? See, we all want the best for our country. Politicizing every issue isn't always the right course of action. You are quick to point to the plagiarism but you fail to admit that the president also asked for attitudinal change. Instead of the sarcasm and bitterness and outright political stance of your piece ( as if Nana has beeen president for the past decade), organize a clean up exercise in your community. This should just tell us that within this short period a lot of water has passed under and over the bridge. No wonder he said "hand over to whom?" Kufuor also built some HPIC ones. They both treated Ghanaians like tools that they use to gain political power.

Secondly, we need to stop this public toilet mentality. What we need currently and more importantly are toilets in our various homes. Francis, you never mentioned that. If you have a toilet in your house, then everybody needs one.

Yes, that's the situation Nana has encountered again, after being part of an NPP regime for 8 years and after 8 years of NDC in power. They have all been misrulers when it comes to dealing with open defecation. Shame on them all!

After 60 years of so-called political independence, the problems of Ghana seem to be greater than what Nkrumah faced in 1952. Getting independence, was indeed, the easier task compared to developing Ghana.

We read of the "intelligentsia" who championed the fight for independence. Today that word has disappeared from the Ghanaian vocabulary. We have in their place pseudo-scholars who shall soon been threatening strikes if their research and book allowances are not paid. They said it has been delayed.

We also have a group of mentally warped midgets with some modicum of literacy whose daily habit is to insult people on social media, on radios, etc.

Any wonder Ken Kuranchie needed to be locked up in prison before realising that Ghanaians are not civilised?

In spite of that do you think it is fair yet to the newly sworn in President who is nearly 85 days old in government per some.of the language you used ?

I believe he has shown good faith enough to what to tackle this problem of sanitation in general head on by getting a full ministry to suprintend over this pressing issue.
Let's see by close this year what has been done about it so we can give some fair judgement.

Be assured that it will be addressed appropriately. It is sad but please be quite decorous while you remain firm and constructive about the whole issue.

The how much did ur government blow away in campaigns just to win political power in 2012 and 2016? U insulted the erstwhile Kufour Administration that the only good thing he achieved was the buildings of public toilets and now u turn back to what, accuse the same NPP government of turning Ghana into Open Defecation Country. Why wont Ghana be 7th ranked when u wasted our resources bloated government projects and programs, buying cars for their vagina stinking girl friends. Even Dumelo got Two V8 cars and gave one to his girlfriend. Atetekwa thing! Do you know the number of toilets one V8 could have built?

Those who claim our drinking water here in Ghana contains feacal matter should have their head examined. In the western world most of them drink soda instead of water because they know their water bodies are contaminated with all sorts of industrial effluent. If our drinking water contains feacal matter then all of us should be sick by now. Many of us drink treated water from the acquifers(boreholes) so what bulcrap is that? As for open dedication, it is due to poverty. Many of us enjoy using nicely fragranced water closet in our mansions but we forgot it is very costly for the poor hence they resort to open defecation. There are many public and community toilets that are well kept but the little the user is asked to contribute to maintaining such facilities by way paying some little coin before using it is unaffordable to the poor. If the community toilets are free no one can be employed to keep it tidy the way many are in the country. Bottom line is poverty should be tackled to confront open defecation. As long as poverty and extreme poverty still exists in Ghana open defecation will never go away. Poor homes can simply not afford to build a toilet. Do you blame them for being poor???

This is the most important issue facing ghana today and yet our so called religious organizations are nowhere to be found on this subject matter. Water is the most important mineral on this entire freaking earth and if Nana Addo dont know he should ask the poor ghanian souls that has perish on mauritania and libyan deserts. Is he not heeding the warnings from reputible organizations predicting the importation of water by ghana in the year 2030? As Ghanaians we are very indiscipline cheats and self conceited people .We live in a country that all people think the only way to succeed is to take advantage of the other,how can you built a house and not provide toilet facilities and yet you collect rent ,we are insensitive and selfish to the core .At this 21st are engulfed in filth to the point the in some years we registered over two hundred deaths caused by poor sanitary conditions .Is a national disgrace Authorities watch whilst structures are erected in water ways,they connote and collude to sell land belonging to the government.Every body wants part of the booty including traditional chiefs .let me digress a little bit ,Go to some part of Ashanti Region and see how see how the land is destroyed in the name of galamsey,my point is Ghanaians do not care ,if we did , we will have the will power to confront issues and enforce the laws but we don't love our nation enough.
